"Narrator Jennifer Hale's outstanding performance brings this story of alien invasion to life....every unique voice enhances the listening experience." AudioFile, on Earphones Award winner, To Sleep in a Sea of Stars.

"Jennifer Hale's narration of this sci-fi novel is exemplary work. Her variety of voices and characterizations, as well as her grasp of the intense drama, is stunning. And just when you think she can't get better, she sings in character, and it transforms her entire performance into art. The combination of Paolini's gripping drama and Hale's voice acting should not be missed."- AudioFile on Fractal Noise

"Narrator Hale’s performance backed by immersive sound effects, elevate this science fiction audiobook about a small team of scientists on the precipice of a major discovery."- Booklist

A new blockbuster science fiction adventure from world-wide phenomenon and #1 New York Times bestseller Christopher Paolini, set in the world of New York Times and USA Today bestseller To Sleep in a Sea of Stars.

July 25, 2234: The crew of the Adamura discovers the Anomaly.

On the seemingly uninhabited planet Talos VII:a circular pit, 50 kilometers wide.

Its curve not of nature, but design.

Now, a small team must land and journey on foot across the surface to learn who built the hole and why.

But they all carry the burdens of lives carved out on disparate colonies in the cruel cold of space.

For some the mission is the dream of the lifetime, for others a risk not worth taking, and for one it is a desperate attempt to find meaning in an uncaring universe.

Each step they take toward the mysterious abyss is more punishing than the last.

And the ghosts of their past follow.

An interesting story let down by an unbelievable protagonist

This was an interesting read. The story is good with lots of details. It is also believable which is more than I can say about the protagonist. Alex comes over as a pathetic bundle of emotional mess who is unable to make any meaningful decisions, especially in the last chapter of the book. His actions often times feel unbelievable and unrealistic. For me, this spoiled the whole experience of an otherwise well paced and nicely written book.
I can't help but feel that this book is a missed opportunity, one that with some small tweaks could have been much better.

Not what I expected, but still very good

I expected a prequel building up to the events of “To Sleep in a Sea of Stars.” In that regard I was disappointed.
The story focuses on a small group of people and is more a study of human nature and social behaviour in extreme situations than an epic. So something quite new from Paolini. Nevertheless, the story manages to keep the listener hooked till the end, even if the beginning is a bit slow. Paolini touches on very deep philosophical questions that every human will face one time or another while never coming across as professorial. He displays the drama of humans coping with their own pasts’ burdens and their grappling with people with very different outlooks from their own while on a dangerous mission.
Overall, a piece of literature I’d like to see on stage. It would make for an excellent drama, which is probably why I enjoyed the audiobook (more than I believe I would have enjoyed reading the book myself).

I expected something else.

If you like philosophy and people getting mad, this may be the right book for you. Sadly, for me it was not.

Mysterious and anoying in a good way

I kind of get the mixed reviews, the book is kind of hard to liste. The Audioeffects have driven me insane like some of the charakters, but also managed to drag me deep into the story. I deeply wanted to go on like the charakters in the book to see whats there to discover.

Not recommended

It has nothing to do with the Book "To Sleep in a Sea of Stars", this is pure Clickbait. If you like to read / hear about 4 People getting mad at each other for no reason while walking for Days on a strange but empty Planet, this might be the Book for you but not if you expect a great Story like the before mentioned Book. The last 45 min of the Audiobook the Reader reads the Appendix.

Personal note, I hate the Sound effects and Music in Audiobooks, i really wish the Produces wouldn´t get creative and just do their Job of releasing Audiobooks
