This slice of life is nothing for people who enjoy plot driven books. We are meandering through a new emperors life and witness his struggle in reconciling being a good emperor with being a good man.
Which he is, his kindness, compassion and wit were a joy to behold.
The audiobook can be a bit difficult because of the many names. Kyle McCarley did a fantastic job in narrating though, so if said person was present and spoke I would immediately recognise their voice.
Sometimes I would struggle with understanding the political details, but Maia gently guided me along with his thoughts and emotions.
I can't wait to listen to it again. But probably alongside a copy of the book in my hand.
