Just... wow
Absolutely fantastic. haven't read anything remotely as good as this book since red rising.
great voice acting, great book. positively thrilled with this and cannot await the next part.

Wow. just wow!
I don't remember the last time I was this amazed throughout a book and afterwards. that's quite some time ago. since the book got published I listened to it 3 times and am very not patiently waiting for the second one. I also recommend it to everyone who will listen.
What's amazing you ask? For one the world building. the magic system is unique,I haven't come across something like this. the characters are witty, sarcastic, hot-blooded and although they think they are smart, they do stupid mistakes sometimes because they are young. which is fine, I like that. it makes them real. they take risks and sometimes it doesn't turn out well. And the twists and turns in the story takes are amazing! Never saw them coming.
oh and the narrator is great as well. just go listen to it already!

Great follow up to the Licaneus Trilogy
I shall admit that the first person present narrator threw me off at first but Vis’s story is intriguing full of almost Machiavellian politics in a world obviously inspired by the mid Roman Empire. The Storytelling is engaging, surprising and at times quite humorous while still dealing out horror elements – Islington’s fantasy blends adventure and gruesome violence with team action quite well (as usual … I would honestly have been surprised if it were different after reading the Licaneus books). Just wish, it didn’t end on a cliffhanger 😅
As for the narration: Authentic and solid. No quirky voices while remaining distinct for the characters. Just how I love audiobooks – let’s me focus on the language and what is actually happening while giving me plenty of room for my imagination.

nichts zu kritisieren - gerne mehr
Genug fluff damit die Welt interessant ist. Nicht zu tiefe Charaktere. Gut und eng gestrickte Geschichte (auch wenn man das bei der Länge nicht denken würde). Nicht zuviel Drama und unnötige Spannung. Top.

Can't wait for Volume 2
One of the best fantasy books I've read in a while. I am desperately awaiting the next book in the series. Really good voice actor as well. 10/10 overall

Cannot wait
Islington hat es wieder geschafft, mich mitzureißen. Die Handlung iist wieder einmal sehr gut durchdacht mit einer schönen Ballance von Vorhersebarem und Überraschendem. Die Charaktere sind gut ausgearbeitet, aber lassen immer noch vermuten, dass da noch etwas kommt. Beim Hauptcharaker würde ich aufgrund der hohen Reflektivität von Situationen, Personen und seines Selbst von einem Mann mittleren Alters ausgehen und nicht von einem 17- jährigen Teenager. Aber - ich bin mir sehr sicher, dass am Ende dieser Reihe auch dieser Eindruck nicht als Fehlnote stehen bleibt, sondern total Sinn macht! Ich freue mich auf das nächste Buch und bin gleichzeitig traurig, weil ich weiß, dass es noch ein bisschen dauern wird. (Hoffentlich nicht so lange wie bei einigen anderen Autoren ;-))

Complicated but interesting story
I liked the plot. The female characters could do with more personality and description beyond hair color. But this was fun to listen to and I ghasped and laughed out loud quite few times. It lost me a little bit to the end but I'm looking forward to hearing the rest ofnthe story.
