Garth Nix offers a really unique fantasy vision in this series, one that I had a hard time finishing, simply because I didn't want it to end. A bit grim at times and never afraid to explore the macabre, this fantasy borders on the horrific at times. Tim Curry does a lovely job of bringing the characters to life.
all-in-all, a really enteratining listen!

This is a very entertaining story about Good vs. Evil, including necromncers, zombies, malicious dark spirits, a reluctant heroine & her friends, and a drop of romance. Tim Curry does a marvellous job bringing each character to life !
"Sabriel" is book 1 of the "Abhorsen-Triology" - be sure to get them in the correct order:

Curry's performance isn't bad (not my preferred choice though), but unfortunately there are severe technical problems with this audiobook.

There were several confusingly disjointed moments in the story, which on comparison with the written text showed passages being omitted from the recording. One such example is late in chapter 20, where the entire part of "shielding her eyes from" until "force sparkling between them" is absent.

eine liebevoll und gekonnt erdachte Fantasy Welt, die unabhängig ist von allem, was man sonst so kennt, und ein Sprecher, der dem 18. Jahrhundert entsprungen scheint, sorgt für eine unglaublich schöne und kurzweilige Erfahrung.

Very atmospheric and engaging in the beginning. Good prose but bad audio quality. Overall very unique in the beginning with some horror & macabre. Later parts don't mesh well with the beginning with mind-boggling world building choices (starts out nondescript and then goes to 1950s era world with guns out of nowhere... Wtf?)

Be aware that this story has almost zero character exploration and development and has little connections to the books in the series. Some pacing issues near the end with a ending 'one the last page'. Creative and unique parts of the story lift it out of the gutter however.

faszinierende geschicht einer jugendlichen protagonistin, die ausnahmsweise nicht komplett blauäugig zur übermenschlichen Heldin mutiert, sondern angehme und glaubwürdige Verantwortlichkeit zeigt - und trotzdem eine echte Person bleibt

This is a great story, but sadly Tim Curry has made it unenjoyable. There’s something about having his very posh voice narrate this story that really made it a chore for me… :( Sorry Tim. I Love you in so many other things.

I first read this series when I was in tenth grade and even now, some 15 years later it's a series I'm always glad to go back to. Tim Curry's voice resonates with the atmosphere Garth Nix built with his writing.
