A Bizarrely Fantastic 2nd Person Fantasy Novel
RavensDagger writes stories that tend to be fairly cute, somewhat flightly, a little bit gay, and generally fun to read.
This novel, originating from a web series where the original readers could vote on how the story continued, is all of that and more.
This is a slice-of-life story first and foremost; the fantastical elements form the surrounding world, but the narrative focuses on the characters' everyday life.
What makes it special is that the narrator adresses the listener/reader as the protagonist, and explains to them what they see, think and do.
At the same time, the protagonist is a nigh omnipotent, chaotic and slightly unhinged eldritch being from beyond time and space who comes to enjoy headpats from its (their?) summoner.
Combined with RavensDagger's typical hijinks, this fairly unique approach to storytelling makes for a cute and disturbing, fun and terrifying, yet wholly enjoyable listening experience. The gay (wlw) elements do not involve the listener/reader, and while
The audiobook narrator, Caitlin Kelly, hits just the right amount of joyful tones, and wonderfully deadpans the most ludicrous violations of the laws of reality, which, from the protagonist's perspective, are really just everyday occurrences.
Overall, this is something fun to listen to. It's unique, enjoyable and just the right amount of chaotic.
