Good start

it was ok but "no wow signal"
The lengthy beginning of what appears to be a never ending story- there are at least 3or 4 books ahead plus many more of the side plot characters.
I kind of liked the story of a aristocratic run away but it's not realy a space opera, rather a amalgamation of what he does (and that is not Opera worthy) and I would have preferred to have all his adventures in ONE book, not many. He is not that interesting.

A large, slow moving story.
First of all, the bad:
The narrator does quite a few mistakes where he does speak in the wrong voice. It's also very hard to differentiate between inner monologuing and spoken word of the main character. Apart from that, it is a slow moving story with lots of redundant descriptions. You can easily listen to it while doing something else because you won't miss anything important when you zone out for a few minutes.

A deep story.
Good intense Sci Fi. It has everything and a good story. I cryed... A bit at certain points, laughed at others. No cheap troupes or stupid harems or plot holes. Just a perfect adventure. Slow, fast and hearthy thruthfull.

It's pretty good
If you like warhammer 40k, this might be for you. It's clearly inspired by that universe.

Dune/Warhammer

A new Dune?
Well written and full of interesting characters. Sadly, the sources of inspiration (Dune, WH 40k) are a bit to obvious. So only 4 instead of 5 stars. Nevertheless a great read.
