Der General Petraeus gibt uns eine historische Entwicklung der Konflikte und wie diese sich stückweise weiterentwickelt haben.
Seine Ausführungen sind immer faktisch und klar.
Er gibt auch in einem Kapitel Ausblick darauf, wie die Konflikte der Zukunft wahrscheinlich ausgetragen werden.
Was überaus interessant ist.
Negative Kritik gegenüber dieses Buch ist mir total unverständlich. Mit Sicherheit hat das etwas mit dem offensichtlich fehlenden Sacheverstand des Hörers zu tun.
Das Buch hält was es verspricht.

Oberflächlich und sehr allgemein werden die verschiedenen Kriege mit US-Beteiligung aufgelistet und mit ein paar historischen Zitaten gewürzt. Dass man aber einen Krieg nur aus den richtigen Gründen beginnen dürfe, eines der schwierigsten Punkte sei, den Kriegszweck nicht aus den Augen zu verlieren, in Vietnam die falsche Armee aus den falschen Gründen auf den falschen Feind traf, lässt einen etwas irritiert zurück. Denn das ist eigentlich jedem halbwegs interessierten Menschen klar. Spannend wären konkrete Schlussfolgerungen gewesen, wie man sie von einem Ex-General und Praktiker erwartet: Was konkret lief denn da schief? Wer konkret wollte denn Kriege für sich instrumentalisieren, und wie lief das ab? Was genau würde die Führungsriege in Vietnam denn anders machen, wenn man könnte?
Für mich ergaben sich keinerlei Mehrwerte, allerdings brach ich nach ungefähr der Hälfte ab, weil es einfach nicht mehr ging.
