Über diesen Titel
One night—a single moment—cost me everything.
My body, broken beyond repair. The boy I’d thought was my forever. The life I’d always dreamt of.
Now, Holt’s back. And he’s no longer a boy, but a man with shadows in his eyes and demons haunting him.
He says he’s here to make things right. To get back a little bit of all we’ve lost. And he doesn’t show any signs of leaving the small town that has been my refuge.
As stolen moments turn to days, Holt’s around every corner. With his burning stare and lingering touches. Before long, my walls come crashing down, and I’m just hoping that taking this second chance isn’t as reckless as it feels.
But not everyone is happy that Holt has returned. As tragedy strikes again, I’m the one left in the crosshairs. And Holt might not be able to save me this time....

I'll never shut up about this book
I loved Catherine Cowles' books for a while, but with this, I think she really knocked it out of the park!
We watch Wren and Holt go through so much trauma while they find their way back to each other. I cried on more than one occasion, while once of these times I cried happy tears, which is incredibly rare for me! I've only ever cried once listening to a book, and this is the second book to get these emotions out of me. I know it'll always have a special place in my heart 🥹🩷
The performances by Zach and Andi were so heart-wrenching and heart-warming at the same time, it just couldn't have been done any better! I absolutely felt all the pain, loss, trauma, tension and love! Just the absolute best of the best 🥹👏🏻
Definitely pick up this audio book. If you like drama romance suspense, you won't regret it. Just make sure you check trigger warnings before you do.

perfect combination of suspense and swoon
Ten years ago, two boys went on a killing spree in their small hometown and killed multiple people. But some survived. Including Wren, who got shot when they broke into her house. In the moments she was bleeding out on her bathroom floor, her boyfriend Holt comes in and helps her until the police arrive. But their relationship doesn't survive the trauma coming along, and Holt leaves when Wren needs him most.
After over 9 years of not seeing each other and Wren not allowing anyone to speak his name in her presents, Holt comes back home. And even when they both still feel so much for each other, the hate and animosity is too much to even be in the same room. But when Wren is being threatened and stalked again, Holt can't stop himself from protecting her.
-small town romance
-suspense
-second chance
-forced proximity
The emotions in this book are quite high and start right in the prologue. The reader gets to read Wren's view of the attack 10 years ago, and I felt an immediate connection to the female protagonist. Throughout the book, her emotions are always clear and relatable, and the reader experiences the suspense like it's their own. The dual POV also gives a good understanding of Holt's actions and as much as I wanted to be mad at him for leaving, I understood his motive. The romance is really soft and, since both main characters actually talk about their feelings, it feels like a healthy relationship. The beauty of seeing them protect each other and just always being there had me get all the butterflies. I personally would have loved a little more groveling from Holt towards Wren, but since he also needed to make amends with his family for leaving them as well, I didn't miss it too much.
Of course, the true hero of this book is the dog, but that's just my opinion.
In addition to the plot, I really enjoyed the narrators. It was lovely to listen to and I can totally recommend the audio.
