Über diesen Titel
A Warhammer Horror novel.
Ashielle Matkosen, new Lord Governor of Ceocan, discovers a horrific secret in a vault beneath her father’s palace - a blasphemous living weapon. Forming an ancient pact with it may avenge her father’s death - but at the cost of her soul.
Listen to it because:
Deals with daemons aren't exactly rare in the 41st millennium - but the nature of this one, and the terrors it inflicts, will shock and surprise you.
The story:
With the death of Ruprekt Matkosen, his daughter, Ashielle, is now the Lord Governor of Ceocan. Her father’s murderers still lurk in the shadows, threatening not only her rule but every mortal soul under her protection. Even her own people cannot be trusted - any one of them may be part of the poisonous plot to destroy her bloodline.
Deep beneath the palace, locked away from all human contact, Ashielle finds a weapon unlike any other: a monster, more adept at hunting in the darkness than any assassin. Allying with such a horror is surely blasphemy, but with doom skulking around every corner, Ashielle is forced to revive an ancient pact with the beast. Yet she soon discovers that her family’s mortal enemies are not the only evil that hungers to consume her.
Written by J C Stearns. Narrated by Katy Maw.

Refreshing, different .... and definitely worth it
Warhammer Horror is a great opportunity to delve into the parts of the lore that have less to do with the actual TT game - and *The Oubliette* delivers! The story is straightforward, but enjoyable - and, most importantly, stays clear off the usual Warhammer tropes. While the novel is relatively short (and the characters therefore don´t get a whole lot of space to develop) the plot moves at a believable pace and the characters act believable and - once again - avoids the usual tropes.
If you are a fan of Lovecraftian stories, this might be for you. Watching the protagonist delve deeper and deeper into her mad violence is a deviously enjoyable.
If you like weirder, the less explored, the sometimes forgotten parts of the lore - get this!
On top of it, the story is really elevated by the narrator, who does a superb job at catching the pure, unapologetic "evil" of our monster, which adds to the atmosphere. If you got a credit to burn, this is as good as it gets!

Pretty decent domestic 40k story
This audio books is out for about 2 months now and i really was not sure if i should buy it. But then i thought, audible has a "don't like it, get your credit back guarantee" so i figured why not.
And i was pleasantly surprised.
So first of all, this book does not create any feelings of angst in me. So i personally would not rate it as a -horror- story. The horror mostly revolves around the main protagonist and about her slow moral decline. Nothing phenomenal and nothing that cant be predicted after the first hours. There also are some descriptions of torture and gory scenes, but they are relatively rare (which is a good thing in my opinion) and also nothing too bad. So from a horror point of view, i would rate this book fairly weak.
However it is also a story about domestic 40k life on an agri-world.
The agri world is underdeveloped compared to the planets you usually read/hear about and the story depicts the management of such a world (the main protagonist is the planetary governor) as well as the intrigues and politics of the noble houses. So i found it to be insightful, enjoyable and it made me want to read more/delve deeper into domestic 40k.
It is in my opinion a pretty decent domestic 40k story.
TLDR:
- weak horror
- decent domestic 40k on an agri world
