Über diesen Titel

This fantastic new recording was released in September 2016 and comes from the acclaimed narrator of The Lightbringer series Simon Vance.

The start of a brand new trilogy from the New York Times bestselling author of The Way of Shadows.

Gavin Guile is the Prism, the most powerful man in the world. He is high priest and emperor, a man whose power, wit, and charm are all that preserves a tenuous peace. But Prisms never last, and Guile knows exactly how long he has left to live: Five years to achieve five impossible goals.

But when Guile discovers he has a son, born in a far kingdom after the war that put him in power, he must decide how much he's willing to pay to protect a secret that could tear his world apart.

Description of bodies is sometimes distracting, comedy sometimes forced.

Twists not always surprising.

All in all enjoyable, but sometimes predictable or clichéd, especially when it comes to "gritty" / "realistic" pre-modern high fantasy and barely clad damsels in distress or women characters, who fall into the archetypes scornful ex-lover, dominatrix, with or without saggy/firm breasts and slender figure or giant bussom.

Good magic system, but sometimes only decent story

Has a very interesting Magic system and it is a interesting journey, but it's also the typical "heros journey"

All in all nice Book

after many misses, this story really blew me away.
Its witty, intelligently written, deep plot and turns that really make you think.
The narrator did a marvelous job here!

While the overall story was good, I just couldn’t get over the way women are talked and thought about both by other women and especially by men. I was so grossed out by the blatant objectification and sexism that permeates every character and the story that I very nearly discarded the book on multiple occasions. Other flaws like taking way too long to get the the point, having too much of nothing happen (basically the first third of the book), mentioning that the reader didn’t actually know what was going on so often that I honestly very nearly googled it, were all I feel unfortunately very much underlined by this blatant sexism and hypersexualisation of women. Even the ‘good’ men were overbearing ku gross; and I sighed so often every time a women began to talk about herself, because it was always in some reference to a man or to her body.

I say this all, because I wish I had known this going into the story and because I think they are important points. I honestly enjoyed the overall story. I thought it was interesting, unique and fun (in a macabre sort of way). I found that I generally liked the characters (with above comment in mind). I liked the way the story built up, and particularly the last fourth or so was very good. But, I had to take two stars off the rating because of what I expressed above. I realize this is a preference thing and that there will be people, who this will not bother. I however also think it needs to be pointed out.

I hope this review was not too much so read, but if you made it this far thank you for caring enough about my opinion to read to here.
