At first I bought it thinking that such a simple concept could make content for a nice book to listen to but it really is amazing and entertaining. I would recommend the audio version to anyone who is interested in changing their perspective on change and what is possible for themselves. Mel has a unique way of speaking and it didn’t really seem like she was reading from the book but just talking to you like a friend. Do yourself a favour and listen to it!
Life changing and very entertaining

I’ve read a couple of reviews and they mostly say that she repeats the same sentence over and over again.
Honestly, there are some thing that you will hear repeatedly and there is some tackiness and unneeded drama too, BUT if you look past all that, Mel has done something groundbreaking here, which is she combined all the major culprits that contribute to the misery in our lives, which are fear, anxiety, bad habits, negativity, oblivious mindsets that we have toward our lives and even simple inactivity (read laziness) and she has decoded them all and explained the reasons behind them in a simple and understandable way. And she has then given us a tool to help us deal with all of that stuff. Yes, in the end, it all comes down to willpower, but the 5-second-rule is described as a starting ritual and that’s exactly what it is. The whole book makes you realize that you are responsible for your own life and if you realize that you are the one who can and then really decide to change your life, the 5-second-rule gives you a platform with which you can rise above all the reasons not to do it. It also makes you recognize all the opportunities in a single day that you can take advantage of. Honestly after reading the book I’m able to recognize those moments when I can and should use the rule and I feel more motivated to do it, because now I see opportunities to actually really change everything that is bothering me in my life.
All of the stories that she tells in the book are not irrelevant, but crucial to you not dismissing the power of those 5 seconds, because if you don’t really look into it, as we in today’s society never really do anymore, it does sound extremely stupid. But somehow it works.
I love the book. It inspired me, it motivated me, it calmed my crazy, anxious mind and it gave me hope that all the negative thoughts I have are just my mind’s masterful illusions and that they are reversible.
I also think that someone who hasn’t yet hit the lowest point in their life and hasn’t experienced the stuff she talks about will not fully understand the benefits of this book. But I hope they remember to go back to it, once the shadow comes for them too.
The crying in the end isn’t as dramatic as you would think it to be from some of the other reviews, but it does feel like a marketing trick. Or she could’ve just been tired and emotional after immersing herself into the stories again . Whatever. All in all the book is amazing, it’s up to date with the society and its modern diseases, it’s so wonderfully honest and a good punch in the face and I would recommend it to anyone and everyone.
Even next to all the little glitches this book has, it is a must-read!
