The skitarii are the soldiers of the Machine God, the tireless legions of the Adeptus Mechanicus. Holy warriors, they carry the word of the Omnissiah across the galaxy, destroying the impure machines of aliens and renegades and spearheading the Quest for Knowledge.

A discovery of ancient technology sends a skitarii legion, commanded by Alpha Primus Haldron-44 Stroika, into battle on a forge world overrun by Chaos. When a cataclysm cuts him off from his tech-priest overseers, Stroika must rally his forces and battle both corrupt machines and Chaos Space Marines if he is to achieve victory.

The book itself is an action-packed, radioactive-guns-blazing description of how the Adeptus Mechanicus fights and that's totally fine. It's what I wanted and it's what I got. It's very hard to give members of the Mechanicus strong and distinct personalities - since they tend to not be emotional at all. Rob Sanders gracefully solves this problem by merely acknowledging it and I like that approach.

However, Toby Longworth was very hard to understand for me. His rough voice tends to make the very tech-heavy vocabulary of the Mechanicus nigh non-understandable from time to time. For me, this led to confusing moments where I was unclear about the Name of the protagonist, since Longworths pronounciation of "Stryker" has a strange similarity to his pronounciation of "Skitarius".
I have the feeling that native english speakers have much less problems with his voice, however. Also, I got used to the voice after one hour which led to a faster and better understanding. Of course - this could be just a "me"-problem aswell.
