After almost 20 years, Emery Hazard finally has the man he loves. And as Hazard struggles to protect the most vulnerable of Walden’s victims, he uncovers a deeper, more vicious plot behind Walden’s murder, and Hazard finds himself doing what he never expected: racing to save the killer.

Only, that is, if Somers doesn’t need him to babysit.

If you follow the series you know what you can expect: a good crime-story, an interesting backstory between the 2 detectives and their complicated past - and the prospect for a better future But shadows from the past can be long looming and carving a future can be messy business. This longest entry so far navigates trauma from Hazards' past to tragedy today - and boy - this is gripping stuff. While we hope our two detectives can finally have a good life together we feel things are too good to be true. And yeah - things get bad, and then worse. A nailbiter of a case, some real heart-ache, some scenes that made me cringe - and at the end - a bitter-sweet ending. A tour-de- force - and easily the strongest book of the series so far!
