Fantasy, Romance and Mystery

I adored the main characters. A perfumer as a protagonist was a new one for me but give me Grace over ten other sword wielding heroines I already read about a hundred times. Also I looooved all the scent descriptions and perfumer work stuff she kept thinking about.
The budding romance between her and Stephen is so so sweet and really just how all romance should be written. And it got even better the more their relationship developed.
The Slow burn killed me but was very sweet at the same time and done so well.

The banter between Stephen and Istvan was hilariously funny. The relationship between the Paladins in general was so wholesome.

There was a perfect balance between romance and mystery. And the dry humour throughout the book is just glorious.

At times hilarious

This is the story of Grace the perfumer and Paladin Steven. Both are special in their own ways (Steven‘s god has died and therefore he actually is out of his originsl job as a berserker; Grace has fled her toxic husband and is influenced by smells a lot), both are also two quite normal middle-aged people who look for love and trust. Together they half-solve the mystery of the severed heads and rescue each other on a regular basis.
The characters are all so lovely drawn that I really cannot decide whom I like most: Bishop Beartongue (who is quite a sarcastic woman), Paladine Istvan (who is just hilarious), Grace, Steven or Marguerite the spy.

A fantastical, earnest, funny romance with quite a bit of mystery

This isn't one of the great fantasy novels everyone has to know and every other story has to compare to. That being said, I enjoyed it very much. The love story is a bit cliché, with both characters imagining reasons they could not just let themselves love each other, but imo that's made up by the neat way they come to grips with their respective difficulties. The reader has a very smooth and soothing voice. Very good for a bedtime story but maybe less adequate to keep you awake while driving long distances.

I think I didn't like romance...

but in this book it tied together with the story and the characters so nicely. I could not stop listening!

Interesting characters-Wholesome romance

The story is not so much about an intricate plot and action as it is about Grace and Stevens romance and them coming to terms with their own difficult pasts and problems. It can feels a bit slow at times but is definitely an enjoyable and heartwarming listen.

Enjoyed this more than I thought. Interesting perspective changes and subtle romance build up. Definitely will continue with the series.

What a wonderful lovestory

At first I feared for a story about male heroism but it quickly became clear that it was so much more! Or better something completely different. The delicate charachter of a mishandled man who doesnt dare to love an equally mishandled woman, who finds herself in a partly supernatural turmoil- the scene is supernatural but the feelings are so real for many. Overly protective masculinity which turns toxic to the bearer and a woman still struck and hurt by a narcissistic and abusive husband. The turnout could be disastrous but somehow it works out. And its darn funny … i laughed out loud many times. Wonderful! Alrady loaded the next one.

cute, funny and intriguing

I like this a lot. The characters, the world the down to earth and life is hard so let's laugh at it humor. The Voice Talent has a great range from gravitas to flimsy, even changes within character voices were easy to track and to imerse onself.
I am a bit tense about the series and hope for steve and grace to find a good place within the world.

Wonderful book, amazing characters, love it

I adore the world. I fell in love with the characters, they both have so much depth and kindness, and it´s so wonderful to see such respectful characters. I fell in love with this book. Both Grace and Steven are amazing characters, and finding out more about the city, the society, the structures and faiths in the world was so interesting.
