First of all, I really enjoyed the interesting world, exciting magic system and good characters.

The only point I dislike is the design of the villain. He is too shallow. There is a lot of unused potential for exploring evilness as a systemic problem, with the corrupting influence of power.
Also, this is quite subjective, but I found it a little bit too religious in some parts…

Okay, I get it now. I resisted the Sanderson-craze for as long as I could. I chuckled at the enthusiasm without knowing what I was missing.
And oh boy, the things I was missing…

The world is amazing
The magic system is SO cool
The writing style is unique and very enveloping
The plot twists (especially towards the end) are unexpected and yet they make perfect sense
The book has such a satisfying ending and yet I am already pulling up book 2 (luckily it is available through my library right away)

The best book I have read since the Throne of Glass series 😃

PS: I listened to the audiobook and the narrator did such an amazing job. If you get the chance to listen to it - treat yourself!! 🎧

Great narration for a GREAT story

Sanderson baut riesige Spannungsbögen auf, dann überrascht er den Leser immer wieder neu. Die Handlung entwickelt sich unvorhersehbar.
Kramer liest mit angenehmer Stimme und gut verständlich auch für nicht Muttersprachler.
Mein erster Sanderson und ich bin schon süchtig.

I absolutely loved the story but very often found myself distracted by the narration. I'm not sure why the narrator chose to make the female lead's voice sound wimpy and whiny in parts where I'm sure there should be confidence, humour and sass. And also the supposedly Scottish accent of one of the characters was incredibly distracting. Overall well-read and I still recommend it because the story itself is brilliant.
