Jason arrives at a kingdom in peril and he's surprised to discover that it's not his job to save it.

With the authorities fulfilling their responsibilities (for once), he looks forward to some quiet time to rest and recuperate.

The locals might not find ceaseless monster onslaughts and an interdimensional invasion relaxing, but Jason has had a rough few years. He's doing his best to let go of his anger.

While his team is caught up in duty, Jason has no shortage of people looking to interfere with his rest. Enemies—old and new—are circling, and even would-be allies are trouble. A princess finds him inconveniently alive, an ancient king arrives at his barbecue, and the local Church of Fertility are uncomfortably enthusiastic about including him in their practices. As his friends strive to reach him from the far side of the world, they are all frustrated by obstacles.

Jason is finally back in the world he longed for, but he is not the same man he was when he left. As the pressure on him mounts, allies and enemies alike will find that out the hard way.

i love the world and how polished the story is. sadly i have the same problem as the main character, that i also miss the good als adventuring times and often get lost in the political schemes and names. Also it feels a bit like he is a bit to smart for getting called dumb all the time. He looks through political situations like a heist movie protagonist who plans the whole situation 3 backstabs ahead. Besides from that its one of my favorite series. thank you autor (:

Love this world way more than earth so I loved the book a little more than the last ones act on earth. I’m curious of how the story continues.

This chapter of Jason’s life was full of tension, fighting, mystery, and fun! Love the fact that it finally ended in a good way. Absolutely recommend this book, as it leads to a fantastic next arc… I think…

From good to better

Finally the story went in a direction, where Jason can rest and heal a little. It seems the responsibilitys are starting to not fall completely on him (this time), which is a nice breather.
Of cause there is tension and Jason has to save some people, but the world is not going to die if he fails and there are some fun parts.

Also: he finally gets some recognition and respect from the higher ups!

I really enjoyed the first 6 audio books, but after only 4 chapters I have to say that Heaths reading and especially his impersonations have become even better. HWFWM's style always heavily relied on humour, but the way the underhanded comments of Neil, Farah and Jason are just mumbled with the right enthusiasm (or not, depending on the situation) brings the characters more to live than even before.

Thanks to both him and shirtaloon! Only 83 days until book 8!

Geschichte und Sprecher genial, wie die restlichen Bücher. Lohnt sich auf jeden Fall, wenn man die ersten mochte. Heath Miller wieder mal in Topform ❤️
