"[Narrator Michael Stuhlbarg's] elegant performance and Aciman's sensitive writing keep things touching without ever being sentimental. Wonderful listening." (AudioFile magazine, Earphones Award winner)
This program is read by Michael Stuhlbarg, the actor who played Professor Samuel Perlman in Luca Guadagnino's critically acclaimed film Call Me by Your Name.
A bonus conversation between Michael Stuhlbarg and André Aciman is included at the end of the program.
In this spellbinding exploration of the varieties of love, the author of the worldwide best seller Call Me by Your Name revisits its complex and beguiling characters decades after their first meeting.
No novel in recent memory has spoken more movingly to contemporary listeners about the nature of love than André Aciman’s haunting Call Me by Your Name. First published in 2007, it was hailed as “a love letter, an invocation...an exceptionally beautiful book” (Stacey D’Erasmo, The New York Times Book Review). Nearly three quarters of a million copies have been sold, and the book became a much-loved, Academy Award-winning film starring Timothée Chalamet as the young Elio and Armie Hammer as Oliver, the graduate student with whom he falls in love.
In Find Me, Aciman shows us Elio’s father, Samuel, on a trip from Florence to Rome to visit Elio, who has become a gifted classical pianist. A chance encounter on the train with a beautiful young woman upends Sami’s plans and changes his life forever.
Elio soon moves to Paris, where he, too, has a consequential affair, while Oliver, now a New England college professor with a family, suddenly finds himself contemplating a return trip across the Atlantic.
Aciman is a master of sensibility, of the intimate details and the emotional nuances that are the substance of passion. Find Me brings us back inside the magic circle of one of our greatest contemporary romances to ask if, in fact, true love ever dies.

The book touches just like call me by your name!
In a total different way. But in all it's all about real and honest love that lasts for a lifetime. A big Thank you to Michael Stuhlbarg for your emotional voice!!! I couldn't stop listening. Some may be dissapointed to not hear only from Elio and Oliver. But I was very excited to get to know Elios father that better after that fenomenal speech in the first book. And I learned Elio is just like him! And finaly at the very end, the story about Elio and Oliver leaves us back without that tears of lost. I am only sad that the book is finished due to I would like to know more from the other members of the first and second story just like Marcia, Elios mother or what happened to Michelle? Due to all these people had influence on Elios live and made him who he is like many people have influence on our own lives and make us who we are. And of course what happened after Elio and Oliver FOUND each other again?? Maybe André Aciman surprises us with a follow up?! I would be more than happy 😊 And for now I can't wait to see what Luca Guadagnino makes out of this 😉

three storys (SPOILER)
Three storys fit into one book.
Elios father falling in love, elio finding a new partner and finally Elio and Oliver being reunited in Italy.
They fill in the gaps of the story 20 years down the line from the point Elio and Oliver first met.
A little disjointed but enjoyable.

The ending is the book
I feel like the first half of the book is forced and unimaginative. The stories are very cliche and predictable and the writing lacks the descriptive imagery that Aciman is known for. I don't know if this was in purpose as to show the muted life which Oliver and Elio led while apart from one another, or if this was on behalf of a lack of passion in the stories themselves. The profound commentary on life and on human beings themselves only appears once Oliver is drunk and the book after that point. I feel that the story of Elio's father's romance was unnecessary or could have been told more succinctly or at least with less contrived diction. I do very much like the ending and I like the glimpse into Oliver's life and wish that more time had been spend on his life without Elio and his yearning for the life he left behind. Likewise I feel that more time could have been spent on Elio's life as opposed to his father's.

Old man's fantasies
Oh, come on... if I wanted Philip Roth, I would have chosen Philip Roth...
I recommend this book to everyone who wants to find out about Elios and Olivers future. BUT.
Spoiler below:
Unfortunately, you have to spend most of the book in company of Elio's father whom I wish all the luck in the world, but why with the obligatory beautiful and VERY young woman...that is just sooo cliché and sticky and implausible. And then we got another couple with that high age difference - to make up for it?
Michael Stuhlbarg does a decent job but to me he's just Elio's father and neither of the other men.
Sorry, not my kind of shoes.
