The story:

Never Boring

Hat also irgendwie relativ wenig mit Cadia im speziellen zu tun. Man bekommt auch keine großen neuen Einblicke. Action ist auch dünn gesäht.
Für mich insgesamt eher enttäuschend, vor allem nach den grandiosen anderen Cadia Büchern vorher.

The female narrator is a matter of taste - she isn't bad, but I didn't "buy her story", she sounds too often put on. The boring dialogues add to it à la: he said, she said, then he said, then she said ...
The painted figures (General Bastian, Minka) and the described scenes are so shallow and stereotypic (General feels insulted, reacts, has to apologise, but refuses and duels himself. [He climbed to the rank of General but never came to a similiar situation? How lucky he was!]) The new promoted Sergeant (Minka) is seen as a traitor, has to prove herself and "kicks ass" to establish authority ... yaaawn. It all seems somehow just copied & pasted and drawn from different sources - but nothing really genuine, true and felt.
I tried real hard to gnaw through it - while painting minis - but got frustrated and angry at some point. Normally I use, what I've paid for, but here I draw the rip cord at roughly - 06:00 hours.
