I read the novel years ago and decided to re"read" it as an audiobook. I'm pleased to say I liked the audio version just as much. It's not what I'd call a "typcial" Parlabane, but it's an excellent thriller in its own right. It can be read / listened to as a standalone, you don't need to know Parlabane's backstory (though the books are a lot of fun and therefore highly recommended!).

The title refers to Diane Jager, a somewhat frosty surgeon suspected of murdering her husband. Thanks to the three different POVs the story gradually comes together like a jigsaw puzzle. This narrative technique isn't exactly new, but when it's done well, it makes a good story even better. And in "Black Widow" it's done very well indeed. The author's playing mind games with his readers, misleading them more than once. I love it when a plot twist manages to surprise me!

The two narrators were very good, though I found Angus King's accent a little difficult to understand at times. (I'm not too familiar with Scottish accents. I do like hearing them, though.)

OMG - such a great book!. I found it a highly intelligent, unpredictable and well written crime story. It’s part of the Jack parlabane series but can be read as a standalone. I cannot recommend it highly enough!!!
