Über diesen Titel

The Narthon Empire and an Iraquinik member, Kolinka, made a mistake.

They tried to kill or capture Yozef Kolsko. The possibility that Caedellium could have peaceful years going forward is refuted. The key is bringing down Narthon. But how?

Caedellium is too small, despite innovations by Yozef Kolsko (Joseph Colsco) and Mark Kaldwel (Caldwell), humans cast away on the planet Anyar. Allies are needed. Campaigns to be planned. Risks to be taken.

For Yozef Kolsko, it means assuming roles he never imagined or believed himself capable.

Anyar will never be the same.

I like the story development at the beginning of the book and the surprising twist with the assessor corps.
The battle descriptions were toned down a lot in comparison to the Forged in fire. I appreciate that, but the whole military campaign was a but 2 dimensional and the end of the Chicawan campaign was utterly unbelievable. I understand to a degree that Josef wanted a stable government in power, but not taking anybreparations after such a costly campaign and Maira's injury and loss of the baby? that is too lenient. and all this hands off approach in the disposal of the Littlichs Is utterly unbelievable.
it feels like Olan got fed up with the story and cut it off with a blunt knife.
I also find the end personally a bit unsatisfying.
as a fan of Destiny's Cruicible, I am happy to have a bit of plot development and Cadaelium growing. obviously the assessor's 'gift' of a banker is what Josef sorely needs to build a modern society and finance the coming wars against Narthan.
There are also many hints to new actors and plot lines. it might be decades at this rate until they will be developed further and folded into the overall plot line.
Can't wait for the next instalment.

Surprisingly Soft Ending.
