John Douglas Fisher

John Douglas Fisher, born of an air force family, had repeated moves all over the UK and abroad and attended 17 schools. He signed on for twelve years in the airforce, but, by creative methods, he shortened his service by eight years. He became a rock drummer, founded a model agency, and an electronics company. Restless, he went to Italy to teach English and became an entrepreneur with companies throughout Europe. He walked the Camino in 2015 where he had the idea of this book. At home in Portugal, he plans future stories, inspired by his experiences. Here is how he describes his way to Fatal Camino: 'I had the idea about the Camino when I met a friend who had walked "The Way" twice. I wanted to get away from an unhappy time. It sounded perfect. While I made my plans, a good friend sent me a detailed Camino map as a Christmas present. I love maps and spent many sessions lying on the floor, the map spread out before me, examining the route minutely. Apart from the general information, I spotted barely visible little crosses along The Way. I thought they were churches, but no, on checking with the map legend, they were labeled Way Crosses. They reminded me of graves. Why graves by the side of the trail? Then I thought, why not? Why would people be buried there? This triggered off my "what if" thinking mode. From this, the story idea formed in my mind. It then became a series of questions and answers of who, what, why, and when, would certain things happen. In a short time, the story was born in my head and down as notes. Suddenly, my upcoming Camino had a new perspective. Not only to find peace but check out locations! Five months later, I was walking and doing both, relaxing, befriending other pilgrims and visiting locations. I was accompanied in part by the characters Jane and Dan in my head. In their differing ways, they were pleasant company. One of the happiest experiences in my life is recorded indirectly between some of the pages of this book.'
