Sam is dragged kicking and screaming into the one case he is certain will be his worst nightmare, as he is recruited to prove once and for all whether Beauregard is real, or a figment of his mother-in-law's imagination. The old Civil War ghost, who may or may not exist, tells Sam to be careful not to arrest the wrong person—and that Death is stalking one of his team.

Sam had closed his latest case, and now his biggest worry was his friend Harry, who had almost died. Doctors had actually pronounced him dead, in fact, but Sam was too stubborn to let them give up and the cantankerous old man came back. But was the case really closed?
