  • In today's world where so many want to re-write history, tear down statues of historical figures, and fill our media with so much attention on all of the worst and crudest aspects of humanity, it's time bring forth those things from ages past that are noble and good--tried and true wisdom of the ages that has stood the test of time.  This podcast is dedicated to just that.  Two men from Chicago, Illinois, compiled a book full of wisdom for life over 130 years ago--wisdom and advice collected from notable men and women across the centuries; much of which, you'll find, still rings true today.  The title of the book?  "The Royal Path of Life; Or Aims and Aids to Success and Happiness" Believe it or not, people from centuries ago struggled with many of the very same problems that you and I do, and their wisdom and experiences are shared here.  Insight on subjects such as Personal Habits, Greed, Integrity, Anger, Marriage, Hypocrisy, Slander, Friendship, Youth, Old Age, Sickness, and even Life and Death. Part audio book and part commentary, in each episode I'll read passages from this wonderful and venerable tome, sprinkled with a bit of commentary and occasionally fascinating and inspiring personal stories from listeners--like you--sharing their own bits of wisdom and experiences along the way. But I must warn you; the language is old and represents the time that the book was written.  Some of the advice and the wisdom it shares is considered controversial in today's society.  Nevertheless it is a fascinating look at the insight of people throughout history and the keys that they discovered to unlocking success and happiness in their lives.    So if you find yourself often reminiscing about the "good old days," consider yourself a bit "old fashioned," or perhaps confused, frustrated, and living a life that you'd rather not be living, then this podcast is for you.     What comes to mind your mind when you think of the word "home?"  Does it conjure up fond images, or one's you are trying to forget?  Regardless of who we are, where we're from, etc., emotions and bonds that are associated with home are perhaps the strongest that human beings can experience.  

    Today's passage is a bit longer than normal, but I think you'll find hardly a better group of words from writers' pens that are strewn together to describe the various aspects of the wonders of home.

    Welcome to the Royal Path of Life Podcast!

    I'm back!  Apologies to my long-term listeners, as I've been on a bit of a hiatus from the show.  I explain why briefly in today's episode.  Rest assured I'm back and committed to bringing your more content from the book each and every week!

    • Men love to build magnificent structures, but it is a greater and more glorious work to build up a MAN.
    • Let your own home be the center of your affections and the spot where your highest desires are concentrated.
    • A young man of known worth and established character will be WANTED.
    • How parents do wrong in keeping their children hanging around home sheltered and enervated by parental indulgence and how an Eagle does better.
    • We live in an age marked by lack of respect.
    • Forsee your danger, arm against it, trust in God and you will have nothing to fear.

    Children--Highlights from the episode:

    • He who has never tried the companionship of a little child has carelessly pass by one of the greatest pleasures of life.
    • Not without design has God implanted in the maternal breast that strong love of children which is felt everywhere.
    • Parents are not conscious how early the seeds of vice are sown and take root.
    • Children will not trouble you long.
    • A home without children is like a lantern and no candle, a garden and no flowers, a vine and no grapes...
    • Children are more easily led to be good by example of loving kindness and tales of well-doing in others, than threatened into obedience by records of sin, crime, and punishment.
    • What a responsibility to form a creature, frailest and feeblest that heaven has made, into the intelligent and fearless sovereign of the whole animated creation.
