  • The Butterfly Effect Episode 11 A conversation with the Hon David Spiers Leader of the Opposition South Australia
    Jun 26 2023

I have an in depth chat with the Hon David Spiers about disability , the environment and his position as leader of the opposition. I was impressed that he took on the role as disability minister. I was happy to see it not thrown in the pot with social welfare for a change. He is no longer disability minister and the role has gone to Heidi Girolamo. David has been responsible for a great many projects in his area including the wheelchair accessibility at Seacliff. He has been an active member of his community for a long time.It will be interesting to see as his community is now the state if it could benefit in the same way. He has a good track record for many projects and is well known in his community as an active participant. It is never the party but the individual that really matters.A good opposition is essential to democracy to challenge and keep the government in check. It was a pleasure to meet him and a refreshing attitude towards disability. I hope Heidi can continue that pathway. As we still have state run institutions in SA there is still a lot to do.

  • The Butterfly Effect Episode 10 - Why the NDIS needs a reset.
    Jun 19 2023

A review has been called for the NDIS. The AAT is on its last legs and a new system of independent expert reviews will replace it. We are told it will take a full parliamentary term to fix. Can it be? Or do we need to just start again? We have built a clunky behemoth of bureaucracy.

  • The Butterfly Effect Episode 9 Rebuilding the NDIS and trust
    Jun 12 2023

For a long time politicians and government have been in the same category as used car salesmen or snake oil pushers. It is assumed there is dishonesty and corruption. I know there are those men and women who do dedicate their lives to service of the community and its a tireless and often thankless job. However many people dont take their vote seriously or choose to vote because they dont believe who they get will make any difference. In many countries the pandemic created even further anger from the people. For me it astounds me that the healthcare system especially the NDIS and the aged care system isnt the top priority. Now with robodebt and class actions for NDIS looming is it any wonder that trust has eroded. The system seems disjointed, silo'ed from itself and designed to protect themselves in preference to the people. The word trust and NDIS has been used much and how to build trust in a system that many are wondering if it will survive is certainly a challenge.

  • The Butterfly Effect Episode 8 Its time for change help me raise my voice
    Jun 4 2023

So many of us have been trying so hard both independently and together to call for change within the NDIS. The disparity between plans is enormous. Some seem to get more than they need and others are left in mortal danger with too few hours. Fraud is rife and no matter how much we report nothing happens. The system seems to favour the cowboys and there is a systemic lack of knowledge. The behemoth that is the NDIS NDIA is so complicated it robs people of their lives causing immense stress. We are at workforce failure and housing is so scarce for those with needs its criminal. It is time for change.

  • The Butterfly Effect A Reason for it all Episode 6
    May 22 2023

We often ask ourselves throughout our lives if there is a reason for it all.Too often we become desensitised and numb and stop believing in humanity. The best way to continue to believe in good and compassion is if we make sure that we continue to put it out there.Keep our hearts strong and full and dont allow them to harden to protect ourselves. A wonderful man allowed me to sing his song with him. It was a great gift of kindness that helped me heal my own heart at the time. His song tells the true story of a woman who died alone in Sydney and no one noticed. Without love and compassion and kindness there is no reason,
