Walking into one of their shows, you are just as likely to find frontman Oscar Alty screaming into his homemade gas mask/microphone contraption as you are to find him singing a gentle lullaby and playing acoustic guitar. Enter Sleeping Village: the band who are just as at-home on a line-up with sludge metal bands as they are onstage at an indie festival like Welcome to Nowhere.

For our 76th episode we are joined in the studio by Sleeping Village’s Caleb Broadhead and Oscar Alty.

Sleeping Village combine blues, ambient, doom metal, noise, country, post-rock and more to create a uniquely mind-bending sonic experience.

We are joined in the studio by Reuben Romanos; a DJ who, by night, goes by the pseudonym flatmate as he spins tunes for Wellington’s small but vibrant underground dance scene. Flatmate has been frequenting Wellington’s dance floors for the past four years and shows no signs of slowing down. We have a chat about mixing vinyl, the art of making playlists, and what being a DJ means in the modern world.

    Aug 29 2024

Libbianski unfurled their own exceptional contribution to Aotearoa's shoegaze / dream-pop canon in April of this year: the swirling, fuzzed-out 'Useless Splendour'. We were lucky enough to catch the band midway through their nationwide tour of the album!
