Not the Zohar

Just came from listening Sepher Yetzirah from the same author, not sure what i was expecting ... well i kinda know, i was expecting a reading of the Zohar and instead, my man couldn't stay straight for 2 consecutive books.

Anyway, there are a lot of mistakes in the book, some things are good, but at this point, the few good things get overshadowed by the overall picture.

With that said, i think i should leave you with at least one good thing, which is a reformulation of one of the things that gets repeated often in these books and it's always exposed wrong:

Giving for the sake of giving is not mercy. it shouldn't be even seen as "giving for the sake of giving" because that implies a disconnect with the act of giving, which makes it lack intention and purpose. It just sounds like something meaningless, one would like to do it, just to get over with and pat themselves on their backs that they have done it. Mercy also puts the receiver below and brings an imbalance of power.
We give because we intend to, because we can do it without it being a strain on ourselves, and because we can give it with the possibility of never getting anything back, which would be fine, because we can afford it. We give because we know it will make a definite positive impact in that person life, because we're intimately familiar with the matter and we know that the act of giving will put that person one step ahead, and that's what we can hope to do for them. The act of giving intentionally, with purpose, is supposed to be meaningful and give a sense of fulfillment, because one would be knowing it was an act done with intention. Sometimes we give to see what people are made of.

As a parting note, i would like to say that i appreciate Kabbalah for thinking so often of god's penis. Filled me with warmth, because at least now, we know there's hope.

Cheerios.
