Inhaltsangabe

2021 Society of Voice Arts Awards winner. Audiobook voice-over for best fiction. Audiobook voice-over for best romance.

Spy. Liar. Scoundrel. Redcoat.

Provocateur and spy for His Majesty, Captain John Carlisle returns to Fort Niagara with the secrets he stole in the arms of the beautiful Oneida innkeeper, Dellis McKesson. Determined to complete his mission and clear his name, he’ll see justice done—and damn the consequences. Now, he finds himself drawn into political intrigue, as the British prepare to launch a three-pronged attack that will bring the rebels and the Mohawk River Valley to its knees.

A dangerous revelation finds Dellis as whispers of intrigue insinuate her beloved is not all that he seems. Unwilling to wait for her lover’s return, she sets out in search of the truth as the Oneida begin negotiations with the rebels, breaking the neutrality agreement with the crown. A bold move that will stoke a fire between the brother tribes and lead to a bloody inter-confederacy war—one Dellis predicted and one John incited. While war between the colonies and the king smolders, the punishing winter of 1777 allows the perfect opportunity for old enemies to settle scores, lying in wait, ready to exploit John’s one weakness—his heart.

John is not an innocent man. The truth he’s long tried to hide from can no longer be ignored, the ghosts of the past seeking justice, and karma wanting payment for sins so dark they cannot be forgiven.

Impressive story

I loved how well the story was thought out and that the characters were fleshed out. It’s written and narrated in a way that makes you experience their emotions with them, and that’s my favourite part about reading. The narration of the first book was excellent, but the full cast narration in this one and the different actors brought this to a whole new level.

A revolutionary masterpiece

One of my favourite historical fiction series is John Jake´s North and South, I can’t remember how many times I watched this over the years, and I am also a big fan of Diana Gabaldon´s Outlander Saga, so for me, the Rebel and Redcoat Saga by TJ London is right up there.

The Traitor, which is book two of the Rebel & Redcoat Saga took me on a very intense journey and gave me one hell of a book hangover. So many feelings were going through me at the same time. I felt every character´s emotions laid bare, be it rage, anger, love, despair, and every wrongdoing which drained me of all emotions.

The story continues right where it left off in the Tory. Dellis finding out who her Captain John really is and going after him to confront him about his deceit. When they meet again not everything is happy to go merry and they must overcome a lot of hardships, challenges and evil in the likes of Rog-er DeLancie, Dellis´s Rebel Cousin Alexei and Celeste who are not going to make it easy for John & Dellis to reunite before they find their trust and love for each other again.

Dellis McKesson is my hero in this story, her strength, her spirit, her fierceness, her fight is admirable through all the hardships she has experienced so far. Equally heart-breaking are John´s struggles, him trying to justify his decisions and the pain he´s caused. It was emotional to see what John is going through as well, fighting for what is right and the woman he loves. It broke me to see them both in this emotional and physical turmoil, although both show that love is powerful no matter what. Tara Langella´s performance of Dellis and Shane East´s performance of Captain John Carlise is incredible. They captured those moments of love, despair, frustration, physical & emotional pain perfectly.

Roger DeLancie is an evil mastermind and delusional although he seemed to be capable of love once upon a time. The message here for me is that rejection and a broken heart can turn into pain and anger and for some people, the outlet is hatred and cruelty. Patrick Zeller´s portrayal of a diabolical Roger DeLancie is terrifyingly good as his performance truly gave me shivers. Patrick is also voicing Dellis tormented brother Stuart.

Celeste oh she is a deviously wicked one. Hate is such a strong word, but I really felt like slapping her at times. She knows how to weave the web of lies and deceive and have it play out in her favour. Marnye Young did a truly marvellous job of bringing this evil lady to life.

Adding to The Traitor cast are the talented voices of Drew McArthur as Alexei McKesson and Pat-rick Armstrong, Nicholas Boulton as Merrick and Captain Butler, and Shayna Small as Agnes, Celest´s assistant. They all really did an incredible job bringing The Traitor to life.

Even if historical revolution is not your genre, you should give this Saga a chance as it is truly incredible. TJ London´s writing, the powerful storyline, the intense research and love of history, the emotions and hardships, the character development, the decisions, fates, and horrors of war, be it emotional or physical, all of this had me on the edge of my seat as there are so many different stories that intertwine, slippery slopes and twist and turns which also lead to some parts that are difficult to get through. It felt like I was watching these written and spoken words play out on screen. Chapeau Lady London.

These incredible written words by TJ London underlined by the magnificent audio performance of an exceptionally talented audio cast have to be epic and 100% one of my top favourites in 2021.
