Über diesen Titel
"A mischievous ghost, unexpected kisses, and one very grumpy Mr. Darcy—this Night Before Christmas, romance is anything but silent!"
Darcy:
I came to the countryside for peace. Instead, I’ve found myself stuck in a village where everyone knows my business, everyone wants to talk to me, and every single event seems to be held in a room that is far too small for the number of people crammed into it. Worse still, I can’t seem to escape Elizabeth Bennet—a woman who somehow manages to unsettle me with just a look. And now, on top of everything, I’ve apparently acquired a sarcastic Scottish ghost who’s determined to meddle in my affairs. Merry Christmas to me.
Elizabeth:
It was supposed to be a quiet holiday, filled with festive gatherings, a little gossip, and the usual Meryton chaos. But things took an unexpected turn when Mr. Darcy, the most insufferably arrogant man I've ever met, started showing up wherever I turned. The man is always glowering, always judging... or so I thought. Now he’s acting even stranger than usual—and I’m beginning to wonder if I’m the one who’s lost my senses. A few kisses under the mistletoe might help clear things up, but only if he stops glaring at me long enough to notice.

The scotsman's ghost
While staying at Netherfield Darcy is informed that he inherited from an unknown Scottish lady, a friend of his grandmother's. Under the possession he inherited is a brooch ... and attached to it is the ghost of a Scottish Highlander. Darcy is now stuck with this meddlesome fellow and desperately tries to get rid of him without losing his senses or his dignity. Soon he determines that the only one who may be able to help him is the last person he wants to ask ... the bewitching Elizabeth Bennet who also makes him lose his senses. Elizabeth soon discovers that the gentleman she once thought haughty acts odd and seems to need help in dealing with some unseen problem. Will Elizabeth be able to help Darcy? Can they both help the Highlander to find his eternal rest? And will they, in all their dealings with the meddlesome ghost, even find love?
The book was very well written by the author Alix James. I like her stories very much and this one was no exception. The story was very witty and had many laugh out loud moments for me. The dialogues, especially between Darcy and his ghost, are often so witty, I enjoyed them very much. In addition I was not able to put the book down because I wanted to know if Darcy would be able to free himself from his unwanted ghost and what would become of the formed alliance with Elizabeth.
I pitied Darcy more than once in this book. He has to endure many, many things due to the interference of his ghost and many of these things were definitely out of Darcy's comfort zone and some were even humiliating. I was so glad when Darcy, with Elizabeth's help, was finally able to get some information about why he is haunted. With this knowledge the ghost became more "cooperative" (if you read the book you will recognise why "cooperative" 😉) and his mischief is not only directed against Darcy but also against people standing in the way of the plan.
I like Elizabeth in this variation very much. She is so clever and witty and it is her who recognises the important aspects of Darcy's ghost and she has the best ideas how to deal with it. I like that she trusts Darcy without much evidence and that she believes him and does not think him mad. I really like the development of their relationship, first a union to gain information why Darcy is haunted, then a friendship in fighting the ghost and later love.
Darcy's ghost, Ewan, was a really meddlesome fellow. But I like him and his direct way very much. When he wants Darcy to do something he even drags him there. Therefore he gets nearly everything he wants from Darcy, he even gets him to dance with Elizabeth 😉. But Ewan's best action was definitely his interacting with Wickham. Never was a set down more funny and satisfying 😄. You must understand, Ewan as a Highlander does not like English soldiers and he acts on it 😉.
Besides Ewan (I am sure Mr Darcy considers him a villain) there is Wickham in his usual glory. But gladly for Darcy his one problem erases the other and later vanishes into thin air ... Therefore a most satisfying solution for all problems I would say.
The audiobook was narrated by Benjamin Fife. I really enjoyed his narration, especially the way he was voicing the ghost Ewan. As I'm no native speaker it took me ages to read Ewan's Scottish speeches. It was so much easier to follow the narration and it was definitely more fun. Besides, the moments the ghost had fun at Darcy's expense were so funny, but I also especially enjoyed the quieter moments like the scene when Ewan finally tells Darcy his story. These scenes were so well done and the narration added even more depth in these funny and lovely scenes.
If you like to know how Darcy, with the help of Elizabeth, tries to get rid of an inherited ghost, you should definitely read this excellent book .
I highly recommend it.
