But for George Jenkins, Sampson Davis, and Rameck Hunt, strong and supportive male friendship was a powerful antidote to the temptations and pitfalls of street life. It led three boys to make a vow to be there for one another, to encourage one another every step of the way, until they overcame the odds and became doctors.

In The Pact, the three share the account of their struggle to keep the pledge they made: a pledge that would alter the course of their lives and lead them to success they could barely imagine. Today Davis and Hunt are doctors, and Jenkins is a dentist. The success of the three doctors is proof that young men can bring out the best in one another and themselves instead of pulling one another down, and it demonstrates that when we "stand on the solid rock of brotherhood" as Martin Luther King, Jr., wrote, remarkable things can happen.
