Great Story but the narration was weak compared to the earlier novels. The Narrators range is fairly small unfortunately. Still very enjoyable though

The plot is somewhat different to the movie, and has many more twists. Really great work, and also the reading performance is really good. Enjoyed it very much.

A truly fascinating, multilayered and complex story. People who know the movie will be surprised how much more there is to discover that was not in the film. An added bonus is, that if you saw the movie, then this feels like the ultimate extended directors-scut version. I must agree with some other reviewers about the narrator. He surely tried his best, but in a novel where there are so many different people, it is a bit confusing that the accent-range of the natator is about a half a dozen. There are other far more skilled narrators in that regard out there and I am a bit puzzled why they were not attached to this mammoth-project

Für Fans ein Muß! Zwar ist der Film kürzer und kompakter gehalten, aber die technischen Details und die komplexere Geschichte des Buches lassen einen noch tiefer eintauchen!

The book is your usual Clancy, for the good as for the bad. A bit rougher around the edges than his later works, but if you enjoyed any Clancy book, this is probably for you.

That being said, you might want to consider actually reading this one. Don't get me wrong, I am an avid consumer of audio books. These days I mainly get to consuming books while commuting, doing housework and so on, so just reading instead is not even close to being a proper alternative. But this one is read so spectacularly bad (by audible standards that is) that even a few hours in, I am still considering to leave it be and buy the paperback for my next holiday.

The narrator reads the text in the emotionless stakkato you would expect from a lawyer who has to read a contract to you in full but is paid a flat fee and not by the hour for doing so. The performance is so absent of any life blood, it may well be able to defend you against vampire attacks by starving them to death. The narration is absent of almost any modulation in tone, speed, accent and emotion. You could ask Alexa to read the yellow pages to you and that would likely be a more nuanced performance than this.

Have you ever heard of the infinite monkey theorem? It stipulates that monkeys with typewriters randomly pushing keys on them - given infinite time (or an infinite number of monkeys with typewriters) - will eventually produce the entire work of Shakespeare. Now imagine watching these monkeys for an infinity until they finally accomplish the feat. That's this audiobook's narration for you.

I was on a quest to experience the series in chronological order. A few hours in, I'm still not sure if I will complete this one. If you want to know the words written in the book, this audiobook is just fine. But if you want to experience the story, close this tab now and go look literally everywhere else.
