Set against a background of political turbulence in Kerala, Southern India, ‘The God of Small Things’ tells the story of twins Esthappen and Rahel. Amongst the vats of banana jam and heaps of peppercorns in their grandmother’s factory, they try to craft a childhood for themselves amidst what constitutes their family – their lonely, lovely mother, their beloved Uncle Chacko (pickle baron, radical Marxist and bottom-pincher) and their avowed enemy Baby Kochamma (ex-nun and incumbent grand-aunt).

Anfangs etwas gewöhnungsbedürftig...

Excellent book. Poor pronunciation.
Such a great book. I wish the reader took time to familiarise herself with the pronunciation of the names (at least the main characters) and the few Malayalam- dialogues. Throughout the book the main characters names are annoyingly wrongly pronounced. The book itself amazing. Such a wonderful writing style. Such a gripping story.

felt bored
sorry, but found myself drifting away all the time. the voice didn't capture me into the story. so I kept missing parts of the story. result was that I couldn't follow the story. kept going back. but sorry.
