Über diesen Titel
A Malaysian folk tale comes to life in this emotionally layered, chilling middle grade debut, perfect for fans of The Book of Boy and The Jumbies.
I am a dark spirit, the ghost announced grandly. I am your inheritance, your grandmother's legacy. I am yours to command.
Suraya is delighted when her witch grandmother gifts her a pelesit. She names her ghostly companion Pink, and the two quickly become inseparable.
But Suraya doesn't know that pelesits have a dark side - and when Pink's shadows threaten to consume them both, they must find enough light to survive...before they are both lost to the darkness.
Fans of Holly Black's Doll Bones and Tahereh Mafi's Furthermore will love this ghostly middle grade debut that explores jealousy, love, and the extraordinary power of friendship.

Highly recommend! (great YA book for fall)
This book is about a 12 years old girl named Suraya who has grown up with a ghost on her side. He protects her and is her friend even though he doesn't really know how friendship actually works because he was made to be evil. But both find their places.
The characters are so lovely and their behavior and word choice are very realistic. I love them so much! The cozy vibes are cool (I'd definitely recommend this book for fall).
The writing style is absolutely beautiful and detailled when needed. I liked it a lot that the POV switches between the girl and the ghost.
Although the protagonist is only 12 years old, I would not recommend this book for kids, because it's pretty dark and includes serious topics (bullying, gaslighting, jealousy, violence, halucinations, child-death ...). It's not written like it's for kinds though. I'm 21 and I love this book and I didn't feel like I'm the wrong audience or something like that while listening to it.
The narrator is very great and speaks every character in a different way, so they seem to be very alive. I'm not native English but I could understand everything very well.
To those who like a little story about friendship and letting go the past with magic, Malaysian mythology and a wonderful writing style - I'd highly recommend The Girl And The Ghost.
