Inhaltsangabe

Disillusioned businessman, John Lawrence Locke, finds himself summoned as a hero to another world, filled with monsters and magic! With his body reverted to the age of 15, the 33-year-old's mind is filled with the possibility of battles and adventures, like the ones in his favorite video games.

Unfortunately for him, life isn't always so convenient. Betrayed by the very people who summoned him, he's condemned as the False Hero and forced to flee for his life. Alone in an unfamiliar world and hunted by all of humanity, he takes on the alias of Lutz and uses his gaming knowledge to quickly adapt to the world's strangely game-like mechanics.

Mostly Generic Isekai, but kind of good.

So why would i say mostly generic isekai?
Simply said, at about halfway trough book 2 it's quite obvious this is heavily inspired by LN of that genre.

I see elements from "the shield hero" , "deathmarch" and a few others incorporated in a interesting way. Which isn't a bad thing, as it's mixed up quite nicely with unique stuff and character tidbits. But some parts, like how the elf does that "silent Hmm" for answers is kind of super cliche stuff that gotten quite overused in deathmarch for example or atleast it sounds like that to me.

Story:

But basically it's a story about the MC being on a revenge trip, while kinda being a true hero and also being a hypocrit most of the times. As his actions often lead to more problems for the innocent, just cause he wanted to help someone. He could have done it differently, but in the end he's more of a rush ahead headlong first type of guy. Which isn't bad too. It's kind of entertaining to see him struggle when he messed up. He fights monsters, levels up and gets into trouble. Probably keeps on saveing people, even if they don't thank him. While steadily increasing his harem of girls, that at one point probably all fall in love with him. Good parts is, that up to this point its not sexulaized heavily and probably wont ever be. It's the kind of gamma MC that's to dense, combined with the fact he's 15 (33 in his old life) and kinda doesn't wanna romance any of his power level harem. Which was the main reason i bought it on recommendation of someone i know. As i really don't like the oversexulaized romance novel storys and i can't easily get rid of them anymore when i buy something wrong xD.
Problems:
I only found a few things that made no sense. But that's probably just to setup the story .... plus you really can't end a story right after the summoning with the hero being killed. Well you can, but that's another kind of isekai thing already done. Outside of that, it makes no sense that he suddenly managed to kill monsters and level up. When he was just a people manager in his old world. But you gotta get it starting somehow i guess?

General:
Can't speak for the rest of the volumes myself. But i bet it continues this way. Mostly relaxing isekai stuff with easy to follow plot and nothing extremly hard to think about. Smash stuff, get stronger, get revenge ... which probably ends up saveing the world.

I will get these volumes all at somepoint probably. Hopefully it stays this way. My friend didn't wanna spoil me ... but my trust in him is limited.

Update: Book 1~3 was as expected. Enjoyable but nothing mind shattering new. The only two real Problem i have with the overall story atm is, that Lutz goes on about "min max" but then does an allrounder build to help his harem grow in magical skills. Together with the fact he's complaining about lack of Skillpoints, when he gets double the norm + free stuff from his heroic skills. Given the trend, it wouldn't be far fetched to say he's always going to have 3 times as much skillpoints as everyone else.

2 magics per Tier, 7 Tiers (if i remember right) and probably 10 Levels/Ranks per magic.
140 Skillpoints to max out one Type of magic. As the lower tier magics probably get replaced by a better version later on. I would guess you could min/max it with around 60 points or so. At level 100 with around 5~6 heroic skill unlocks. He would be able to have 5 types of magic category on a godlike level. Probably with godlike tier 7 Spells maxed out. xD

So yeah he's bound to really get OP. As barely anyone probably has Tier 4 or 5 Stuff unlocked. Except some really baddy twoshoes bosses ^^.

Voice Actor:
I like his voice. Noted him down on my list of good Narrators.
Sadly he sometimes is overdramatizing to hard xD.
Like "i t REEKS" and then he goes on in a casual tone. Doesn't happen often, but it distracts a bit from whats happening at times.

Seems to be a newer Voice Actor.

Great potential

The Beginning reminds me of The rising of the shield hero. The Story has Drama, Action, revenge, feeling, magic and most of all a cheat like System for the MC. Deffinetly on the list of wishing for a manga and Anime Adaption.

Decent story marred by a horrible narration.

Tl;dr:
2 stars because it is comprehensible, but narration quality detracts from the admittedly decent story.

Review:
I couldn't force myself to listen to the end, I read the book instead. The story is actually pretty entertaining, the book is even illustrated!

Back to the audiobook: the narrator actually struggles with reading aloud. This narration is not even at the level of the average high school student. It even happens multiple times that the narrator intones as if the sentence had ended... and then continues the sentence, as if only then realising that there is supposed to be a part after what he just said. Thus: complex sentences are a massive pain to listen to. At least it is decently clear who speaks during dialogue, and the narrator doesn't have any horrible accent, so it's comprehensible. Still, it's leagues below my standards.

Let's say I'd rate a neutral performance, with correct reading, intonation and natural flow of the language, but without any voice work in form of different voices or emotions conveyed as 3 stars. This recording doesn't meet that standard.
