Über diesen Titel

What would you do if you had the power to destroy the world?

In her younger years, Catherine Woulfe was known as the Lady of Death...but those days are long past. Now, at over 300 years old, she is older, wiser...and painfully dull. Instead of using her necromancy skills for things like killing people and taking over governments, she now works as a private investigator, helping people find their lost treasures.

But when a charismatic stranger walks through her door, searching for one of the most powerful artifacts ever created, she is drawn into a case where she must use all of her old powers - including several forbidden ones - if she is to find the missing amulet. When the last person to see the amulet goes missing, she realizes it’s time for the Lady of Death to summon her minions and go on the warpath.

Angels and demons are searching for the amulet, as is a mysterious dark elf about whom little is known. Everyone is stalking her, waiting for her to find it so they can grab it for their own; meanwhile, her client has awoken feelings long suppressed, which is proving to be...distracting.

Can Catherine find the trail of the thief and recover the amulet before the thief uses it to summon a deity that will destroy the Earth? More importantly, if she gets it, will she give it back?

annoying and boring

Everybody around the protagonist is using magic for everything they want from killing to slavery to crafting to transportation while she barely does some parlor tricks and everytime she wants do something drastic someone else comes in and either does it for her or talks her out of it.
The author clearly didn't know what to do with a powerful protagonist so the reader/listener is told throughout the book how strong and dangerous the protagonist is instead of actually making her do something interesting with her powers.
The book also does a very bad job at convincing me that the protagonist should be infamous because stronger and more dangerous beings seem to pop up everywhere she looks, so it's not very believeable when the book tries to tell me that everybody knows her name since she doesn't seem to be either especially powerful nor would other more powerful beings let someone do what she apparently did in the past.

The author obviously has no idea how a magical society would function within the world of this book, for example I find it highly annoying how none of the magical beings in this book use magical wards correctly. In the whole book wards are only there to be mentioned when someone circumvented them, if these wards are so easily circumvented why would anybody even use them except maybe for the strongest beings. There're also many parts of the story when it would've been logical for wards to be used but nobody even thinks about it, for example it makes no sense that all these mages and magical species walking around aren't using wards constantly to secure their surroundings since teleportation, charm magic and invisibility are possible.

There're more problems from not using firearms to the inane "justice" system and so on.
