Siege of Terra Book 8, Part 2

Volume II picks up right where the first left off, with cataclysmic events building up to an epic conclusion that will shake the very galaxy to its core.

LISTEN TO IT BECAUSE

The final battle aboard the Warmaster’s flagship has begun in earnest, as Sanguinius defies his fate and the Dark Gods in an attempt to end his brother’s life, and the war along with it.

THE STORY

Terra is besieged. The outcome of the war lies on a knife edge. The Warmaster Horus’ bloody seven-year crusade has led to this – the cradle of humanity, where he is to kill his father, the Emperor.

With the war at this critical juncture, Sanguinius, primarch of the loyalist Blood Angels, braves the horrors of the Warmaster’s flagship, The Vengeful Spirit, with a single purpose in mind – to slay his brother Horus, decapitate the Heresy once and for all, and stop the forces of Chaos from taking Terra.

But at the whim of a Warmaster fallen so far from grace, the Dark Gods will not make Sanguinius’ task easy. As the war edges towards its explosive, bloody conclusion, events are about to unfold that could either save humanity or plunge it headlong into an eternity of darkness.

Disappointing...

I loved the first book, keeble with Annette, dream dou and was so exided about the 2nd book. but when i heard there will be a 3rd book, i was scared because I thought "this might be just a filler" and sadly it only is... a 18 hour filler...

actually nothing happend here, I dont know how this book is so long with like 2 to 5 mins chapters jumping to so many characters without any Story or meaning...

And the warp part just went out of hand... like 200 Times "there is no time anymore" when there is clearly time. it added nothing to the story and had 0 impact on anything.

Had a hard time finishing the book and also skipped alot of the meaningless filler dialogs at some time. One of the worst warhammer Audiobooks I heard, maybe even the worst...

Boring and repetitive

The already paper thin story gets stretched into a third book, in which we’ll probably again flow around characters nobody cares about. Lots and lots of mentions about how time he as stopped, though this does not really have any effect on anyone.

Like an anime with too many filler episodes.

This one sure drags on. And on, and on. This really should've concluded the series, about 70% of this was unnecessary filler. I love Abnett, but this feels like his editor saw the draft, saw the sales numbers, and instead of cutting what was already too long asked him to stretch it so they could make it three books. I really don't mind tangents for the sake of epic scale, but this one ran out of steam very quickly. Would've profited from conciseness.

...buuut you've made it so far in the book series so you'll listen to it anyway, let's be honest! (And they knew that)
Here's to hoping it ACTUALLY concludes in part 3.

Very good speaker but bloated

Unfortunately it is extremely bloated up with hours of uninteresting side stories. Appreciate his efforts to bring all the loose ends to an epic finish, but it is simply too much and not enjoyable. Should have been 2 parts and not a trilogy...

A decent story dragged out to a mediocre one

By and large the story is solid. The way everything comes to an end feels appropriate and certain moments are absolutely epic and well written. This would be easily a great work for me if not for several sins committed ad nausea since the first book of the trilogy.
First, many of the monologues are terribly stale and drawn out. Especially the ones of Malcador seem extremely artificial in language and repeate the same content again and again and again.
Second, some of the elements, such as influence of the warp on time and space are repeated so often that one gets the impression the author does not trust the reader to understand it after hearing it 5 times.
Third, the chapters are way to short. There is finally an interaction or fight developing to truly grabbing my attention, just to be stopped by a cliffhanger after only 4-6 minutes. It is followed by a threat/character that I don't care about, which is followed by another one I don't care about, then one that is okay, and then by another interesting one that is way to short again. This felt simply frustrating and made me wonder if it is assumed that the average listener cannot follow a story for more than 5 minutes in one go.
The biggest problem, from which all others at least partly arise, is that there is simply too much unnecessary, dead weight content. This story would have lost nothing if 50% would have been cut out and only would have gained from a more thorough editor. This way it felt to me like searching for gold pieces in the rubble.
Additionally I was annoyed that some of the fluff mechanics do not make any sense to me. All clocks stop working, but any other high-end technical device keeps operating? Time stops, but the only real indicator of that is everyone talking about how it has stopped?

All together it is okayish. If you liked the first one you will be probably happy with this as well. If the first one felt like a drag to you, this one will again.

There is a part III?!

As with part I, about half (if not more) of the story could be cut. The story of some of the protagonists is truly thrilling and in this vol. II excels even better than vol. I, but the parts in between are a pain to get through. As I was about half way through this book I found out that there will be a vol. III and I lost all interest in continuing to listen. I’m glad that I did continue after all however for the Ending contains a twist, I did not expect. The voice actor does an amazing job.
