Good story almost well told

I was made aware of these book by a reddit post of the author and I can honestly say that I do not regret giving the books a listen!

The story is amazing and I had to hold my breath many times while listening.
The plot is so unique and immersive that I couldn’t stop.
And as the author has said in the afterthought, the ending is a perfect finish for this epic storytelling.

It whole trilogy is great! It does have its ups and downs, however there was not a moment where I said, that it is dragging on just for the sake of making the story longer.

There is good character development and the author does not refrain from killing some of the cast.

In genera I would recommend it for fans of dragons and fantasy.

I really like the non overbearing emotional aspects. It seems these days every story is a therapy session which can be quite tedious and annoying. I prefer characters discovering themselves indirectly which sometimes hapens here.

A truly great story which was read to me by a highly skilled narrator. Each character had his/her own very distinctive and enjoyable accent.

A story without rhythm or focus, it stumbles along touching unfinished characters and events, finally ending in a somewhat lame and disappointing finale.

The narrator didn't help that, rushing through huge parts of the trilogy in a bored - and boring - way. He voice-acted for secondary or tertiary characters but made all the main characters sound the same and weren't even accentuated by pauses or modulation.

I admit there were passages that I didn't get on first hearing, but while I would usually replay those passages in any other book I listen to, I didn't bother with this work. I just wanted to finish it, already expecting the bland ending that I got.

Sorry to say this but listening to this series proved to be a waste of my time – I recommend you save yours for more interesting and more gripping stories.
