The Dark Defiles is best of the series. Morgan built a fascinating world, dirt and all, and populated it will heroes that were also real people. Morgan dissects the idea of hero and looks at it from every angle. Our three protagonists aren't anti-heroes they are just flawed. While they deal with their flaws they realize that in the end heroes don't get to live happily ever after.

Really like the author, but the speaker seems to try to win a speed contest. Very monotone and without the abiltity to create any atomsphere. Bummer was looking forward to the book and it ruined it for me

Good Fantasy books are equal part escapism yet also speak about the human condition and themes we recognise about the world we live in. This series delivers with gripping action, glorious myths, gruesome violence and a sprinkling of sex thrown in for good measure. But what attracts me the most: it is witty , it's smart and takes the genre and the listener seriously.

Simon Vance is just awesome. There's no doubt about it. The story itself becomes a bit confusing sometimes. Not all the threads seem to really connect well and especially the Dwenda's and Ringil's parts in the story seem to be open to interpretation to an increasing part. It's still great though. Raw and brutal yet poetic and often smart. If you have enjoyed the other books of the series, it's a must-read.

Loved it... takes some concentration though.
