Über diesen Titel
Munich: The writer Benjamin Stern entered his flat to see a man standing there, leafing through his research, and said, “Who the hell are you?” In answer, the man shot him. As Stern lay dying, the gunman murmured a few words in Latin, then gathered the writer’s papers and left.
Venice: The art restorer Gabriel Allon applied a dab of paint carefully to the Bellini, then saw the boy approaching, a piece of paper in his hand. It would be about Stern, he knew. They would want him to leave right away. With a sigh, the Mossad agent finished his work, then began to pack his brushes.
Vatican City: The pope known as Paul VII—“Pope Accidental,” to his detractors—paced in his garden, thinking about the things he knew and the enemies he would make. He believed he understood why God had chosen him for this job, but the road in front of him was hard and exceedingly perilous. If he succeeded, he would revolutionize the Church. If not, he might very well destroy it—and himself.
In the weeks to come, the journeys of all these men will come together, following a trail of long-buried secrets and unthinkable deeds, leaving each one forever changed. Intrigue will dominate their lives and death stalk their paths, all of them in the shadow of the Confessor.
Filled with rich characters, remarkable prose, and an intricately woven plot suffused with surprise and intensity, this is an uncommonly powerful work by a new master of the art.© 2003 Daniel Silva; (P) 2003 Books on Tape, Inc.

Chronological Order:
1. The Kill Artist
2. The English Assassin
3. The Confessor
4. Death in Venice
5. Prince of Fire
6. The Messenger
Unfortunately Audible has 'The Kill Artist'only as abridged version. 'The English Assassin' is available unabridged.
Gabriel, a former assassin for Israel's foreign intelligence service, the Mossad retired after the murders of his wife and son to lead a quiet life as an art restorer. Gabriel's ex-boss, Ari Shamron, an Israeli spymaster draws Gabriel into the world of espionage and revenge by telling him that his old friend and fellow former assassin team member Benjamin Stern was killed by a professional assassin who calls himself The Leopard. Gabriel investigates to find out why Stern was killed.
I found some uncomfortable similarities between this book and 'The Da Vinci Code' however, considering the copyright date, it is unlikely that Daniel Silva had read the latter when he wrote this one. Here, Gabriel has to find a very, very blonde (though not quite albino) assassin working for a conservative Catholic group who are plotting to take over the Vatican by killing people and are covering up a horrifying secret about the Church. (Hmmm sounds again very much like 'The Da Vinci Code'.) However, 'The Confessor' is certainly better written than 'The Da Vinci Code', and the revealed secrets are more horrifying because they are demonstrably true.
Hopefully the other stories with Gabriel Allon will be available as unabridged audiobook soon!
An outstanding superb thriller!

I’m a big fan of the books & story, but the person reading it was close to ruining it.
I have absolutely no idea why he feels the need to read EVERYTHING with some weird accent (all nations the same;) - even people speaking to each other in their native language, even when it’s pointed out several times that the protagonist (or others) speak the language like a native.
Would suggest reading it or listening to it in another language. The story is good & important for the rest
True Allon Fashion but read horribly
