Great Start

Very fun Story, not too much to say yet, but book 1 delivers all that i expected.

Will Wights new book

I went into this with trust in the author and was rewarded heavily for it. The first chapter starts with a sentence that I thought would bring me through the whole book, but at the end of chapter 2 the epic situation that is announced is already wrapped up and it goes to chapter 3 where we see the protagonist already being one of the strongest forces in the galaxy.

Now a small bit about me: I dislike stories featuring cars and guns, because of what they do to the concepts of distance and lethality. This story has both. But the way Will Wight pulls it off and the absolute deathgrip on the pace made me forget about both. I listened to the whole book in a single day and was never bored or put off.

There are several systems of gaining power, but since the protagonists are already far advanced on their paths to power they do not get explained from the ground up and frankly they don't need to be. The moment magic was real and the ship was using a subspace drive I had already suspended my disbelief, so the various powers of the other characters don't come as a shock and are unique and interesting every time.

I went in with the expectation of being entertained during my next month of car rides and ended up with being entertained for only one day in my cozy home because I couldn't stop listening.

Also Travis Baldree's voice really enhances the different characters and makes them all unique and memorable by voice alone. A grand feat that I have already admired in Cradle and adore here too. You *never* ask yourself "who is this?" Because the voice alone tells you exactly who is talking with clean cut precision!

Amazing, absolutely loved it.

Great start to a new series. I'd even dare to say it's scratching my Eisenhorn/Ravenor itch.

Looking very much forward to what's to come!

Etwas zu schnell und überladen, aber gut.

Für mich ging es teilweise zu schnell und immer wieder der nächste Unfall, Überfall etc.
Etwas mehr Zeit für die Charakterentwicklung und Hintergründe wäre gut gewesen.

It’s fine

Quite disappointing

The book description seems to talk about a totally different person, the "captain" in this book is a depressed, pessimistic and weakwilled individual and for half of the book I was waiting for that person to die and the reader/listener getting a new start with the "real" protagonist, but sadly it didn't happen. At least it didn't happen until I lost my interest in the very disappointing protagonist, stopped caring about the story and stopped the audio book.

The world could be interesting, but with as many galaxy ending threats that are popping up out of nowhere it isn't very believeable that the galaxy is still around.
