This is one of the quieter books of the TNJO. It is the story of Jacen who is totured and "educated" by Vergere for the Vong. Vergere often asks philosophical questions that are not easy to answer for someone being imprisoned but also not easy to answer for the reader/listener. She questions the jedi order, the code of jedi and what we learned so far about the race of Yuuzhan Vong. She goes into places where none of the movies dares to go.
Jacen's learns many things about himself, his beliefs but also about the creatures of the Vong.
