Inhaltsangabe

Trapped on a cruise ship with a man I absolutely hate is not how I wanted to spend this fake honeymoon. Especially when my "fiance" has a deadly ex on the same boat.

Jackson is everything I'm not: brash, careless, and a former fossil thief. But he's my ticket to getting what I want - the original Spinosaurus fossils that have been lost for decades. Now I have to play the part, win the fossils, and try not to kill him in the process.

The danger of being caught, tortured, or killed isn't what scares me.

Navigating the waters of this fake relationship is threatening to pull me under.

And I'm terrified of sinking.

Contains mature themes.

I am drowning!

The narrator and the author did so many things right! The tropes, the accents, it's perfect.
The grumpy arabic Baha gets send on a mission with the sunshine cowboy Jackson. They get onto an ocean cruise and yes there is only one bed in the room. The tension between the two is great and I really liked the plot about the portuguese fossils. So sattle up for the ride!

Funny and emotional

Classic Grumpy and Sunshine story with a dinosaur twist.

I would have liked a lot more dinosaur time, but I get it’s hard to incorporate.
What wouldn’t I do to get a shark as a present!

Funny at times and I loved how the grumpy Baha fell so hard for the Cowboy.

Doesn’t live up to the first one

After reading Smash & Grab with zero expectations and getting a very positive surprise I was really looking forward to this one. Sadly I actually got disappointed a bit this time. It’s not a bad book but it really doesn’t reach the charm of the first one and the story seems a lot less thought through.

The characters: Baha and Jackson aren’t unlikeable but I couldn’t even nearly develop the same fondness of them as I did with Simon and Dalton. Baha seems kind of robotic with his mostly unwavering emotionlessness, which isn’t made better by the fact that his POV is narrated pretty monotonously. Maybe due to the narrator having to concentrate on the accent all the time.
Jackson on the other hand seemed kinda like a less interesting and less sympathetic copy of Dalton, at least in a couple ways. Him falling in love with Baha also makes very little sense to me considering that the man really doesn’t show a sliver of niceness to him for the majority of the book. I didn’t feel like they really had any chemistry altogether and the relationship seemed kinda forced for the plot. *MINOR SPOILER COMING* I also never felt like I got a good explanation for Jackson being a fossil thief but, at the same time now, being enraged that his ex stole a fossil while on the cruise. Where exactly does his moral compass actually point and why?

The story *CONTAINS SPOILERS*: As I already said the story seemed like it was thought up in a rush. There’s just quite a few things that don’t really make sense.
First of all there’s the fact that Jackson (or anyone else, like Montana for example) never communicated the real plan with Baha before entering the ship. Considering the danger of the mission and the necessity of Baha playing along and matching Jackson’s story and behavior this seems like a completely illogical decision. But somehow, even though they’re doing an absolutely terrible job of pretending to be an actual couple, no one really notices anything off when they should’ve been found out the first day.
It also doesn’t allude to me how Jackson even got an invite to that ship if Jonas left him for dead several years ago. Why should he invite him after that? That’s never addressed in any way and just doesn’t make that much sense to me either.
I’m not even gonna touch on the part about the secret auction, which felt just kinda unnecessary and cringe. That brings me to the character of Collin McBride though, whose existence in this book I don’t quite understand. What’s his purpose? Because it seemed like it was only to be annoying and obnoxious for the sake of it, not much more. Including him that much into the story seemed pointless, his infatuation with Baha is another thing that doesn’t make sense considering the former straight up tells him he hates him multiple times and treats him even shittier than Jackson (not that Collin doesn’t deserve it), and he’s written to be so brainless that that, too, just seems forced.

Even with all this criticism I still somewhat enjoyed the book as a form of easy, undemanding entertainment but I’m really hoping that the next one’s a bit better again.
