So this book absolutely blew my mind.
I downloaded the audio book and started listening to it without much expectations. After the first 3 chapters. I never wanted to stop listening to it.
First the story: Such a lovely, incredibly adorable story. It was a great pleasure to look trough the tiny windows Simon opened for us.
The characters are amazing, badass and super adorable and the writing style has a really pleasant touch.
As for the voice actor: Perfect choice! The voice is smooth and really fitting for the main character. As for me, a not native English speaker, there was no problem understanding it at all! And even though it's hard to tell apart who's speaking when at some times you somehow get it, so no problem there.
Overall I think this is a fantastic book and if it caught your interest then I say: Give it shot! You won't regret it.

Ein sehr angenehmes Hörbuch, ein ruhiger, aber emotionaler Sprecher und eine Teeny Coming Out Story, wie sie echter kaum sein könnte.

Natürlich werden viele Klischees bedient, aber man fühlt mit den Hauotfiguren. Das Ende wurde zu schnell zum absoluten Happy End... aber so müssen Geschichten wohl sein =D

This book put such a huge smile on my face. I couldn't stop listening! The narrator is awesome and the characters are all super loveable. Simon is relatable and fun and I just wanted to squish his cheeks. His friends are awesome and YES it's all a little too perfect, but if you're looking for a contemporary romance to make you feel good, this is the one.

Habe das Buch an einem Samstag in einem Rutsch durchgehört. Es war spannend (Wer ist Blue? Ich bin drauf gekommen, wenn auch nicht von Anfang an) und sehr unterhaltsam. Die Lesung war sehr sehr gut. Martin Crouch ist die perfekte Stimme für Simon. Ein richtiges Wohlfühlbuch und absolut Mainstream tauglich. Das sieht man einerseits an den vielen Sprachen, in die das Buch bereits übersetzt wurde und andererseits daran, dass das Buch kommendes Jahr verfilmt werden soll. Letzteres hat mich überhaupt nicht überrascht. Beim Hören habe ich oft schon die entsprechenden Filmszenen vor mir gesehen. Man muss also nicht zur LGBT Gemeinde gehören, genauso wenig wie man ein Teenager sein muss oder Oreos kennen und lieben muss;), um an diesem Hörbuch seine Freude zu haben. Sehr schön ist auch, dass die Jugendlichen ernst genommen und ihre Probleme auf leichte Art aber dennoch einfühlsam dargestellt werden. Das einzige, was mich ein wenig gestört hat, ist diese für meinen Geschmack übertriebene „political correctness“, die selbst schon wieder den Hang zur Engstirnigkeit und Ausgrenzung hat. Außerdem werden dadurch Reaktionen und Dialoge vorhersehbar, etwa bei den Reaktionen der Leiterin der Theateraufführung und Simons Familie. Daneben noch bei ein zwei andere Reaktionen, die ich jetzt aber nicht aufzählen kann, um nicht zu viel zu verraten, denn Spoiler stehen ja auf der Liste der politisch unkorrekten Dinge ganz weit oben;). Aber die Mainstreamtauglichkeit ist wohl nicht ohne diese übertriebene „political correctness“ zu haben, jedenfalls nicht bei US-amerikanischen Autoren.

Romantische Wohlfühlkomödie

This is a beautiful and important story for our time. Typically Teenager, full of emotions and drama. Just a bit different, but in the end not really. Positive and happy representation is important and this story gives a lot of it. And there's even an happy end in it and it's cute and adorable. For everyone who enjoys a story about love, friendship and family ;-)
