Über diesen Titel
The summer is winding down in San Diego. Veronica is bored, caustically charismatic, and uninspired in her photography. Nico is insatiable, subversive, and obsessed with chaotic performance art. They’re artists first, best friends second. But that was before Mick. Delicate, lonely, magnetic Mick: the perfect subject and Veronica’s dream girl. The days are long and hot - full of adventure - and soon they are falling in love. Falling so hard, they never imagine what comes next.
One fire. Two murders. Three drowning bodies. One suspect...one stalker. This is a summer they won’t survive.
Inspired by The Picture of Dorian Gray, this sexy psychological thriller explores the intersections of love, art, danger, and power.

deep, thrilling, art, love, summer
I really liked the book, I just didn't fall in love with it. I'd rate it 4,5 stars.
The beginning is a bit short, I wish there were a few more scenes before the two main characters meet each other (like a scene of Mik and her best friend so we see more about how her life before was). But that's my only critic.
What I really like about the story: no character is perfect or the pure good. They want to be good people but struggle and do mistakes which is normal and realistic and adds deepth to the characters and plot. The way the characters change and develop is very realistic for each.
It's really cool that the story is inspired by The Picture Of Dorian Gray but in a modern way with photography instead of painting. However the story makes its own out of it and is not a copy at any means. The relationship Mik has with that picture is nevertheless very interesting and deep and something new.
The writing style is very beautiful and fits to the dramatic moments and thoughts about deep art and feelings. A few sentences are even poetic which I love ("she was so many layers, she was the ocean.")
What I like most about the book is the depth about making art and insecurities and feelings and fear as exciting fun and toxicity and healing. And the Wendy Heard does a very good job in portraying those topics with a beautiful writing style.
Also I love the book for its feministic awareness and thought out sentences. (For example that girls are allowed to take up space too, a talk about victim people etc.)
I really like the romance and the way their feelings are written and the thoughts of the main characters. The book is thrilling the whole time but at the end it becomes more of a thriller and I was even scared when I listened to the last few chapters. It was great.
The narrators are really good too and fit to the characters. I like how much emotions they put into their readings.
So yeah, I'd recommend the book to everyone (especially YA) who likes a thriller-romance-mix with a deep art topic and summer feeling. If you like Funeral by Phoebe Bridgers you should read this book.
