Inhaltsangabe
We’re told that if we care about our health - or our planet - eliminating red meat from our diets is crucial. That beef is bad for us and cattle farming is horrible for the environment. But science says otherwise.
Beef is framed as the most environmentally destructive and least healthy of meats. We’re often told that the only solution is to reduce or quit red meat entirely. But despite what anti-meat groups, vegan celebrities, and some health experts say, plant-based agriculture is far from a perfect solution. In Sacred Cow, registered dietitian Diana Rodgers and former research biochemist and New York Times best-selling author Robb Wolf explore the quandaries we face in raising and eating animals - focusing on the largest (and most maligned) of farmed animals, the cow.
Taking a critical look at the assumptions and misinformation about meat, Sacred Cow points out the flaws in our current food system and in the proposed “solutions”. Inside, Rodgers and Wolf reveal contrarian but science-based findings, such as:
- Meat and animal fat are essential for our bodies
- A sustainable food system cannot exist without animals
- A vegan diet may destroy more life than sustainable cattle farming
- Regenerative cattle ranching is one of our best tools at mitigating climate change
You’ll also find practical guidance on how to support sustainable farms and a 30-day challenge to help you transition to a healthful and conscientious diet. With scientific rigor, deep compassion, and wit, Rodgers and Wolf argue unequivocally that meat (done right) should have a place on the table.
It’s not the cow, it’s the how!

finger up for this masterpiece
Not so long ago in the past I decided to do some drastic measures for me personally so I decided to become a Vegetarian for a year then I became Vegan and I was vegan for two years. Most of my life I was an omnivore but due to certain digestive issues I decided to try the plant world and it worked but not completely there were always some flaws. Since I have a medical education and have been involved in sports all my life, this book really intrigued me. The reason I afforded this book was because I wanted to hear the other side of the story as well, the first time I heard about Diana Rodgers I heard through the Joe Rogan Podcast what I heard there led me to this book. I am working on my own book and conducting my own study related to health through nutrition and I will definitely try a combination of flora and fauna. Since I removed Gluten from my diet, I have noticed a change in my cognitive abilities, and there is no need to talk about lactose and the problems it creates in digestion, it has been known for a long time. But despite all that, certain problems remained and that didn’t get me where I wanted to be, I hope this will.

Some very good points...
... But overall not pleasant to listen to. The last chapter is the best, reminding that the biggest issue is that of the food industry, and that "us versus them" can't be the foundation of a discussion. Yet throughout the book, next to the very valuable ideas of regenerative farming, there's so much defensive us vs them talk, and if science backup is mentioned, info is lacking why and how processes (eg nutrients) work. Next to science, the Bible is mentioned to prove man's task to dominate animals, very questionable, as is a reference comparing vegan advertisement to the Nazi dictatorship. Not good. It's complex...
