The town of Rotherweird stands alone - there are no guidebooks, despite the fascinating and diverse architectural styles cramming the narrow streets, the avant-garde science and offbeat customs. Cast adrift from the rest of England by Elizabeth I, Rotherweird's independence is subject to one disturbing condition: nobody, but nobody, studies the town or its history.
For beneath the enchanting surface lurks a secret so dark that it must never be rediscovered, still less reused.
But secrets have a way of leaking out.
Two inquisitive outsiders have arrived: Jonah Oblong, to teach modern history at Rotherweird School (nothing local and nothing before 1800), and the sinister billionaire Sir Veronal Slickstone, who has somehow got permission to renovate the town's long-derelict Manor House.
Slickstone and Oblong, though driven by conflicting motives, both strive to connect past and present until they and their allies are drawn into a race against time - and each other. The consequences will be lethal and apocalyptic.

Exciting

Quaint & convoluted
A grand vision of backstory coupled to colorful characters and a complicated but never boring storyline, with generous helpings of comic relief. Probably a bit too rich in all matters.

Enjoyable
Absolutely enjoyable. The only drawback being that the setting off of passages or paragraphs from one another has not been done thoroughly enough, resulting in occasional confusion.

Confused
Rotherweird is rather weird, most of the time I was quite confused. I enjoy it when a book is a mysterious but there is a fine line. The book lasts around 16 hours and I spent about 13 of those wondering what they were on about, this then lead to me forgetting names and so on. The book is fair enough and the reader was fine and one can always return the book to audible and exchange for something else.

Interesting book
I enjoyed listening, but I got lost in the plot a couple of times. the arrangement of the the chapters can be confusing, which made find my way into the plot rather late. Thus, I understand some of the critic from previous listeners. Still, I'll go for the second book...

Rather weird
Ich habe nach ca. einem Drittel abgebrochen - was ich sonst nie mache. Die Grundidee mag ganz nett sein, die Umsetzung ist aber einfach langweilig. Protagonisten haben keinerlei Identifikationspotenzial.

I am very confused
"Rotherweird" is mostly one thing and that is very confusing. maybe it is just one of those books that does not work well as an audiobook, but I have now listened to around 2/3 of it and I am still not entirely sure what the **** is going on. It took a long time to even get a bit of a grasp of the people and the fact that it junps around in time (a lot) so once I figured that out I thought things might clear up, but they still haven't so now I am giving up.
You definitely need to pay very close attention if you want to stay on top of this story and while I enjoy a bit of a mystery I am honestly not interested enough in the happenings and lives of the protagonists or care for them enough to do so...

One word: exhausting!
The story is actually pretty amazing, nur the changes in the period, especially at the beginning of the plot and the multitude of protagonists is somewhat exhausting.
