I'm obsessed
I heard about this book on the author's TikTok and have been wanting to read it for a while now, because I really enjoy the king x guard trope, but this exceeded my expectations. It was so damn good! It brought tears to my eyes and had me laugh out loud, the characters were charming and the plot interesting - pretty much everything you could want from a book. The audiobook was really good, I definitely will be buying a physical copy as well.

Cover täuscht, keine echte Romance
Zwei Sexszenen und ein paar Dialoge machen keine Romance, wenn der Rest aus Schlachlogisitk besteht. Die guten Bewertungen kann ich nicht nachvollziehen, das Buch liest sich wie ein unlektoriertes Erstlingswerk. Dass es ein Tiktok-Hit ist, hätte mich warnen sollen. Definitiv keine Empfehlung. Garantiert ist es NICHTS für Leute, die etwas ähnliches wie Captive Prince suchen.

Okay plotline, but mediocre characters
After finishing "The Last Binding" trilogy by Freya Marske, I was looking for something new to sink my teeth into. Unfortunately, this wasn't it. The plotline isn't bad, but the characters keep me from getting invested, because I find it hard to take them seriously. Balen has the highest rank possible, but I read him as arrogant and hot-headed and it just doesn't fit. The main characters give me strong teenager vibes. The romance dragged out for a bit in a forseeable and not too original way. I think if there was a tad more worldbuilding and characters with more depth and development, this could be something.
