Über diesen Titel
Trapped for three days by a flood, and trapped forever by society because of it....
The river isn't the only thing overflowing in Hunsford when a natural disaster forces Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy to work together. The residents of flood-stricken Hunsford, seeking refuge in the parsonage atop the hill, are unaware they are interrupting Darcy's disastrous proposal. Even worse, the flood has washed out the only bride to Rosings Park, stranding Darcy with the woman who has just refused his offer of marriage. But it may already be too late to redeem Elizabeth's reputation. In this Pride and Prejudice variation, the lane dividing the Hunsford parsonage from Rosings Park has been replaced by one of the flood-prone Kentish rivers. The storms are real - the spring of 1811 was remarkable for numerous thunderstorms in Southeast England.

Amazing speaking
Perl Hewitt is amazing! One of the best performed audio books I've heard so far.
She just draws you in and brings the story to life.
Great, great job!!!

Excellent twist on P&P, enjoyably read
One does come to expect enjoyable Pride and Prejudice “variations” from A. Reynolds, but this one is certainly one of her most outstanding takes on the world-famous romance. As usual, Reynolds manages to throw our beloved Austen characters into the most inventive situations whilst keeping not only their characters but also the core conflicts alive. The deluge during Elizabeth's visit in Kent as a new starting incident is a fabulous idea that throws the two heroes into proximity to each other at the worst (best?) possible moment (Darcy’s ill-fated proposal at Hunsford)—and it's far from the most exciting idea this variation has to offer! Reynolds delights us with an entertaining and lively cast that contributes to the twists and turns of the plot, this time starring a charming Colonel Fitzwilliam acting as a rake, the faithful Gardiners acting as Cupid, and a very French and impertinent Lady Matlock acting as a delightful foil, while Mr Bennet and Lord Matlock make for two very different, albeit enjoyably frustrating villains. Apropos: Many stories have made out Mr Bennet to be the villain, but this is the first one I've read that convinced me of that ever being a likely scenario given what we know about him. Darcy and Elizabeth’s romantic path towards each other is, as ever, a total delight, littered with the conflicts we know so well newly imagined and enhanced by a (period-appropriate) sexual tension that intensifies as their relationship progresses (btw, whoever opposes Darcy lusting after Lizzy as “ahistorical” ought to check the historical meaning of “ardour”). The only criticism I have is regarding the title. Though considering AR does freely admit her struggles in that lane, it's probably not much of a surprise that “Mr Darcy’s Refuge” is a poor characterisation for a story that would be more succinctly described as “Mr Darcy and the Deluge”. But that's just a side note. Overall, this is a truly enjoyable listen that, a couple of times, did manage to convince me (as well as eavesdroppers) to be a true Austen. The voice actor only enhanced this experience. Aside from a couple of odd pronunciations (e.g. “ton” and “equipage”), they did a great job of conveying the spirit of the story as well as the emotions of the characters involved. Very nice!

Loved ! the first half and all the angst, but the second half was unfortunately just like any other very average conclusion.
It’s an unclean romance & pretty well done! hot & bothered
