Compelling, twisted Gothic Romance!

Master of Salt and Bones has all the gothic vibes with a psychologically twisted story that makes you stay invested from start to finish.

Gothic Romance? Check.
Mysterious MMC with a tragic and scarred past? Check.
Me eating this story up? Of course.

This is one of the books that have been sitting on my tbr for too long, so I'm happy I finally got to it. 🥳

The story is messed up with so many hörrific elements. But that is what made it such a compelling read. Definitely not for everyone, but I enjoyed it. And the twists kept coming and coming! 🤯 It was crazy and not pretty, so be warned.

However, the many flashbacks with explicit OW scenes could've been dialed down a notch. It was in the past, but there were more scenes between the MMC and other women than with the actual FMC, and it started to bother me.
The scenes between the actual MCs were hot AF, though! And, omg, Lucian Blackthorne has a foul mouth🔥

“You’re my curse. Staying away from you is like trying to hold my breath when the tide is rising … I want to drown in you.”

Both characters were captivating. Especially Lucian. He is an enigma. In flashback, you slowly discover what he went through but never fully know the man. Isadora's past is also not all sunshine and rainbows. She had to deal with a dr üg-addicted mother and school bülli es and I felt for her.
While they have an age gap, Isa was so mature I didn't notice it. Also, their chemistry was there from the start, and I anticipated every interaction.

“Together, we are madness. And there is music in madness, and madness in love.”

Overall, Master of Salt and Bones is a great gothic read with a delicious dark age-gap romance and psychological hö rror elements that will make you squirm.
