The Story

Each primarch is an exemplary being, derived from the Emperor’s own genetic stock to embody a facet of His personality. Their powers are unfathomable, but only one of them is the First. Lion El’Jonson is the paragon of what it is to be a primarch. His Legion, pre-eminent for most of their long history, typify the virtues of temperance, pride and martial excellency that the Lion embodies. They are the Emperor’s last line and final sanction. They are His Dark Angels.

Now, while the Emperor gathers His mightiest sons for an assault on Ullanor Prime, the Lord of the First instead draws his Legion to the farthest reaches of the known galaxy, seeking to subdue a single rebellious world. Is this but another example of the Lion’s infamous pride, or is there more afoot amidst that graveyard of empires that is the Ghoul Stars, more than the Lion will share even with his own sons?

The story was not at all captivating, none of the characters were relatable or at any point interesting enough to care about.
The entire conflict could have been compressed into a short story with an hour or two max runtime.

Has to be on of the best 40k books I've read in months.
Interesting insights into the Lion and his legion, contained in a fight against a xenos race that is a unique breath of fresh air.

Suprisingly dips into horror at Times.

Insbesondere in ihre besondere Stellung im Vergleich zu den anderen Legionen.
Und ein Einblick in die Sicht von Lion El‘Jonson auf seinen Vater.
Ansonsten aber nichts Besonderes.

I'd recommend any other primarchs novel over this one. Also you get to experience more of the Lions character in the Lemon Russ book, than in this one.

I find this book to be one of the better Primarchs series. It is second best besides Lorgar thrice curresed be his name.

The Lion lacked character in the first horus heresy books but this book fleshed out why the dark angels are so arrogant and secretive and why the fall of some part of their Legion is so much more shameful than the other legions.
