Über diesen Titel

The person you are with is just like you: same background, same age, same interests. The perfect match. And it is an unmitigated disaster.

Then, when and where you least expect it, you meet someone new. You seem to have nothing in common and yet, somehow, it feels totally right.

Nick Hornby's brilliantly observed, tender but also brutally funny new novel gets to the heart of what it means to fall surprisingly and headlong in love with the best possible person - someone who is not just like you at all.

Nick Hornby again found an utmost entertaining way to reflect about actual society matters in England by telling this love story

A contemporary masterpiece love story

Schöne Geschichte mit leichtem politischen Bezug, typisch Nick Hornby, keine schwere Kost und leicht verständlich

Einfache Kost, typisch Nick Hornby

Nice enough to listen to, generally I like the author and was excited to listen to a book of his. But I'm disappointed. The usual cleverness, sharply funny moments are but little; way too few. The phrasing is solid, the caracters exist alright, but they keep on circling in slow-mo.

Kinda stuck

I am not a big Nick Hornby fan but I wanted to give him another chance because some of my acquaintances like his books. Unfortunately the story disappointed me yet again. I dislike the constantly depressing atmosphere and occasionally detestable characters. Why would an intelligent and nice woman only be surrounded by rude, crude or boring people? Not realistic. And it felt like the topics brexit, racism, intellectual and age differences in relationships (which are interesting topics to ponder about - don't get me wrong) were forcefully crammed into the story to make everything overly dramatic and problematic. I get it - the characters are supposed to be opposites that attract - but it just felt over the top to me. I like a little drama and I don't want to read about a picture perfect world but I would have liked to identify myself with any of the characters and I didn't. Lucy is almost too perfect - her friends are mostly awful. Joseph is mature, air-headed and childish all at the same time. Frustrating... If you are a Hornby fan this book might be for you - maybe it just takes a certain kind of person to enjoy the atmosphere, characters and (needless) drama.
